It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our dad, much loved father, grandfather and great-grandfather Eric Francis Summers. Born April 27th 1936.

Dad is predeceased by our mom Yvonne who passed away 7 years ago. Today they were reunited.

Mourning his loss are Roger (Donna nee Pine) and Wendy (Dan Honnor) his grandchildren Mike Hillier (Claire Sullivan), Justin Hillier (Kelly O’Reilly), Erica Summers (Jonathan Candow), Zachary Summers (Rebecca Raine) and Michael Honnor (Catherine O’Toole) and his beautiful great-grandchildren Jessica, Rachael, Vincent, and Faith O’Reilly Hillier, Teagan Hillier, Jacob and Noah Honnor. Also, at this time his loss is deeply felt by his sister Doreen (Jack Tricco), his sister-in-law Marilyn Curtis, his beloved niece Andrea (Chris Holloway), his dear friend Claire Higdon and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and a large circle of friends.

Dad was a truck driver for almost 50 years, he loved driving a truck but his greatest fun was a love of singing and dancing. He brought laughter and song to all who knew him. He made friends wherever he went, could break out in song in an instant when asked, and often when not. He could woo anyone with a rhyming Diddly. Dad’s favourite times were family dinners and weekends at the Hodge, his family and friendships meant the world to him.

We are grateful for the people at Heritage Square Retirement home and those at Glenbrook Lodge who cared for dad in his final days. We will miss his songs, his rhymes, his love of dancing, Elvis impersonations, and his renditions of Charlie Pride. We hope today he is singing, having a dance and a drink of Lambs and catching up with mom.

Though our hearts are broken, we are so very grateful for the 88 years of his life well lived.

A service will be held at St Thomas’ Church on Military Road on Saturday, July 20th at 2pm, with the interment to follow at the Anglican cemetery on Kenmount Road.

A celebration of Dad’s life will follow the interment at 19 Jesse’s Place, Flatrock with family and friends.  Come toast with us and tell a story or two and maybe sing a song.

With music and friends in life and in death, forever in our hearts and always in song.

My condolences to Eric’s family & friends on the loss of a fine man. Although friends for a long time, mom & Eric developed a special friendship after the loss of their spouses, being there for each other in times of need. Their interactions provided great amusement many times when I was visiting mom. Saying goodbye is never easy but I will remember Eric for his mischievous smile and ability to break out in song at any moment. A good man, a good friend, a life completed.

So very sad to hear of your Dad’s passing. Eric was such a great neighbour to mom and dad when your parents lived on Carrick Drive. Every Thursday evening was happy hour and it was the highlight of mom and dads week. Dad always said we need to cut a piece out of the fence so we can go back and forth. We all loved hearing your dad sing, he was a character. My favourite was I’ve got a lovely bunch or coconuts. When mom passed away and he came to the home to visit, we were talking to him and we said how much we loved him singing that and he sang it there. He certainly brought us joy that evening. Mom always said the best trip they had was with your mom and dad to PEI they had quite the time that year. Rest in Peace Eric. I am sure Yvonne is overjoyed to see you again. Our Sincere Condolences to all the Family.
