Every one should have a Big Sister like Sis was to me. I remember on a couple of occasions when Nan (our Mother) was in Hospital in St. John’s Sis took care of Judy and me with tender loving care. On one of those occasions Harris and Edger (Harriett’s brother and nephew) was at our house one Sunday for dinner. It was around dusk when Harris and Edger decided to leave for home and I decided to walk with them as far as Ridge Road about a twenty minute walk. Sis was concerned that it would be too dark for me coming back home. Anyway, I decided to go with them. On my way home,, as I i got closer to our house, Sis was at the window watching for me.
I went everywhere with Walter and Sis. Every Sunday night for example ( I was about 10 or 11) I went with them to church. On the way home I would be tracking behind them and they would be chatting to each other. Another time I went with them to Carbonear shopping. I saw them studying baby clothes and i said to Sis you don’t have a baby…she just laughed. Little did I know….
I also spent many Christmases with Sis and Walter when they lived in St. John’s. Nan always packed a box of goodies to take with me. Jim Burgess taxi would take me straight to their place and Sis would be there to welcome me with open arms. I suppose Bette and Brenda would remember some of those visits. I’m sure Bette will remember when she, Sis, Judy and Pam visited Arizona and Rosalie drove you all to the Grand Canyon.
So, Sis as I say goodbye, it is with a grateful heart that i thank you for your tender loving care and the many found memories..
Bette, Brenda and your respective families, we share your sadness. may we all rely on God’s love, peace and grace to comfort us at this difficult time, and let us keep the happy memories of Sis in our hearts forever.
Love, Gerald and Rosalie.
