It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Frank Collin Day, announce his passing on November 19, 2024, at the age of 83. Many thanks to paramedics and staff of St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital Emergency Department who assisted Frank during his brief illness. Your professionalism and compassion will always be remembered. Many thanks also to his family physician Dr. Michelle Wagoner who assisted Frank for many years. Thanks also to the staff of Comfort Home Care and especially to long time worker Kayla. Thanks also to recent worker, Alex. Frank deeply appreciated your kindness and dedication.
Frank C. Day was born to Frank and Elsie Day of St. John’s on September 9, 1941. Frank grew up on Empire Ave. He described his Dad as an excellent plasterer, he spoke of a mom who knew how to make ends meet, and of his Dad’s Newfoundland dog. As Frank matured, he first chose a career in mechanics. He went to work in Argentia. It was there he bought his first car from an American serviceman. Frank proudly drove his blue and white, 1956 Meteor Niagara. His appreciation for good looking cars continued as in his senior years, he became a collector of unique model cars.
As the American Base in Argentia was being phased out, Frank sought other employment. He moved back to St. John’s. He found himself on a completely different career path as he accepted a position at the Waterford Hospital. Frank continued to work there until his retirement. Frank was a proud member of Nape. Over the years he was a very active member, holding various positions. In retirement years he served as an Honorary Member. Frank also enjoyed being a member of the Lions Club.
As a young man, Frank met and married Vivian Gosse and together they shared much joy raising their daughter Charlotte. As an older gentleman, Frank found much joy in the birth of his granddaughter Jeannette. They shared a special relationship and will be forever remembered as her ‘Popi’’. Together they enjoyed life at home and had many treasured memories of travelling as a family to Ontario, Ireland, P.E.I., Florida, Boston, Halifax, and Montreal. Frank was a loyal Newfoundlander and as such also enjoyed family adventures within his beautiful home province.
Frank knew sadness too. He was predeceased by his wife Vivian Day, infant son Peter Francis, his daughter Charlotte Day, parents Frank and Elsie Day, infant sister Daphne, sister Mildred Furey, brother- in-law Frank Furey, sister-in-law Ruby Gosse, brother-in-law Lloyd Gosse, sister-in-law Diana Pittman, brother-in-law Frank Stone, and in-laws Peter and Elizabeth Gosse.
Frank leaves to mourn his treasured granddaughter Jeanette, his son-law Howard, niece Annette-Ghaney, niece Daphne Held, nephew Frank, and many other family and friends.
