It is with extreme sadness we announce the sudden passing of Frank Fogwill. Born on October 8, 1959, Frank departed from this earthly life on July 18, 2024.
He was predeceased by his father, William (Bill) Fogwill in 2001 and most recently by his mother, Bouwina Haan Fogwill on February 5, 2024.
Mourning his loss are his sister Margaret and brother-in-law Tim Heffernan (Ontario); his brother Bill and sister-in-law Sherry Fogwill (St. John’s); and his nephews Nicholas Fogwill, Kyle Heffernan and Shane (Godson) (Julie) Heffernan. He will also be fondly remembered by his many cousins and their extended families.
When Frank was seven years old, he was afflicted with severe Osteomyelitis. While he spent two years in St. Clare’s on the children’s ward, he did not let that deter him. He never complained of fatigue or pain and thus was a great example of perseverance and determination.
Frank grew up enjoying fishing, dirt bike riding, and raucous games of ball hockey with his neighbourhood friends. He loved music and he learned to play the bass guitar. Over time, he acquired a massive collection of albums and CDs and he was often on the lookout for the next album to enjoy.
A Memorial University graduate, Frank was a voracious reader and listener of podcasts. Most recently he was a dedicated employee for St. David’s Presbyterian Church and St. Mark’s Anglican Church. Frank was a much loved and devoted son to his mother and he did his best to ensure her wish to live in her own home was supported.
The family invites you to honour Frank’s memory by connecting with those who may be hiding their pain or by offering small acts of kindness to those in need of support. Donations to SPCA St. John’s https://spcastjohns.org/ and Lifewise NL https://lifewisenl.ca/ in his memory are also gratefully accepted.
There will be a memorial reception at St. Mark’s Anglican Church at 203 Logy Bay Road on Monday, July 29 from 2-3:30pm.
Though we need to weep your loss,
You dwell in that safe place in our hearts,
Where no storm or night or pain can reach you.

Dear Margaret and family
We were very sorry to hear that Frank passed away.
Although we never met him in person, we knew of him through your stories, and especially the warm way your dear mom told us about him.
We wish you all strength with this heartbraking loss.
Thinking of you, Jolande & Edward, The Netherlands.
Margret and family,
I was saddened to learn of your brother’s passing. Although I hadn’t seen Francis since he was a very young man, I always remembered him as a kind and gentle soul.
I pray that the loss your family feels now may in time lessen as loving memories of happier times together emerge.
My condolences to you and your loved ones.

So sorry to hear about your loss. I have many great memories of my youth with Francis and the Fogwill family. Walking home from school together, street hockey, music, and just hanging out, such great times. Francis was truly a great friend. Thinking of you all at this time.

Words cannot express the heartfelt sorrow I have with Frank’s passing. I have known Frank since he came to St. Marks Church, we had become great friends. Many , many times when I was at church we would chat for long periods of time about anything, everything and just chit chat. He always had a smile for me and would raise his arm and say hello. Frank, I will miss you , but will carry our friendship in my heart forever. May the peace you now have give you comfort and may God open his arms widely to welcome you. Rest my good friend you will be missed. 🙏🏽
