Obituary

Passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John’s, Mr. Frederick George Deir aged 74.

He was predeceased by his parents Benjamin and Gertrude Deir; parents in law, Wilson and Laura Trowbridge; sister Isabel and baby brother Albert.

Left with fond and loving memories his wife Ida, daughter Collette (Aaron); son Shane (Mark); granddaughter Alex and grandson Luke; sisters Lillian (Henry) Edna (Eldon deceased) Audrey (Bernard) Bernice (Glenn) and Betty (Greg) and brother Ben (Audrey) and a very large circle of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Fred was born October 28, 1947 to Benjamin and Gertrude Deir in Port Anne, Placentia Bay. He has called Labrador City, Bishop’s Falls, Arnold’s Cove and St. John’s his home. He loved spending time at his summer home in Deir Haven with his family, friends and most especially his two grandchildren. In earlier years he enjoyed his time up to 45 with his hunting buddies. His career with NL Hydro allowed him to travel and explore many of NL’s outport communities making friends along the way.

The family would like to thank the many Health Care Professionals who looked after him over the past number of years. A very special thank you to his sister Audrey for so generously giving him a kidney over 36 years ago.

Visitation is at Carnell’s Funeral Home from 1-4pm on Saturday, April 16, 2022, Room 1. Masks are recommended. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.

Aunt Ida, Colette & Shane. I was so sad to hear about Uncle Fred. He was always a wonderful, kind, caring and thoughtful man.
I’ll never forget the trip we took to Alberta when he was waiting to take the “perfect” mountain picture . As soon as he took the picture a transport truck drove by and ruined it. He just laughed about it.
He will certainly be missed in our family. Thinking about you and your family’s during this difficult time.
