Passed peacefully away after a brief illness at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital on Monday, July 4th, 2022 at the age of 87.

Leaving to mourn, his loving wife of 62 years, Sandra (nee Hynes); Daughters: Alexa Davis (Fort Worth, Texas); Lisa Davis (Jack Mercer) Mount Pearl, NL; Grandchildren: Jacob Parsons (Shelby Whalen) Ottawa, ON; Elise Parsons (Jesse Tom) Manchester, UK and Sloane Miller (John Morris) Austin, Texas; Brother in law, Robin Hynes (Donna Hynes), Burlington, ON, as well as extended family and friends.

Fred started in business alongside his father, Charles Davis and his Uncle Issac Davis, bringing Canadian Tire to St. John’s in the 1950’s. He later opened his own business, Automotive Supplies on Elizabeth Avenue in 1974. This talent for business intersected with his passion for cars, whether it was his extensive knowledge or his recognition of makes and models from old to new. He had a life-long love of driving and continued to drive daily until recently.

Fred was a long-standing member of Gower Street United Church. For many years, alongside his wife, he sang in the church choir and was a member of the Men’s Club. He had a passion for music, an interest he shared with his wife and they often played piano duets and duos together, one on each piano. Fred possessed a love of all animals. There were always pets at home. “Ryder,” his beloved dog, always nearby will miss him dearly.

The family will receive visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Thursday, July 7th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. The funeral service will take place Friday, July 8th at 2pm from The Carnell Memorial Chapel. Internment to follow at the Kenmount Road Anglican Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the St. Clare’s Emergency Room staff for their kindness and compassion. A special thank you to Rev. David Guzzwell for his kind words and prayers.

Donations in Fred’s memory may be made to Gower Street United Church.
