Passed peacefully away on Sunday, July 13, Gary Curtis Parsons aged 62 of CBS originally from Greenspond, Bonavista Bay. He is predeceased by his parents, Baxter and Julia Parsons.
Leaving to mourn his loving wife, Jackie (nee Bartlett) of 36 years; his cherished son, Curtis; sisters Bessie Froude (Ray), Doreen Coward (George); brother, Reg Parsons (Shirley); mother-in-law, Joan Bartlett; brother-in-law, David Bartlett (Carol); special nephew and life-long friend, Rodney Coward (Margaret); his precious feline companion, Lynx; and a large circle of family and friends.
Gary was born and raised on Greenspond, Bonavista Bay, and left to pursue his post-secondary education as a young man. He obtained a Bachelor of Science, a Bachelor of Social Work and a Psychiatric Licensed Practical Nurse credential. He devoted his life to helping others through his work in counselling in the healthcare field and through lifelong friendships and family ties. To know Gary was to know a true friend. He was always there to lend a helping hand and share his kind and pleasant demeanor with everyone who knew him. Gary also had many hobbies including fishing, photography, and cooking; he loved cooking for family and friends, and one would never leave his dinner table without being full. Most of all, Gary was devoted to his family and to the lights of his life: Jackie and Curtis whom he loved dearly.
Gary is resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Tuesday, July 15 from 7-9 p.m., and Wednesday, July 16 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from St. Mary the Virgin on Thursday, July 17 at 11 a.m.
Donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice, and flowers are most welcome.
Rest peacefully, beautiful soul

Jackie, I was so sad to hear of Gary’s passing. I met you many years ago when Gary’ sold me a set of tires. He had a good soul and was a good friend. He was only a call away when I needed some advice. He was very knowledgeable in a broad range of things. Even though I haven’t seen him in a few years, when I would run into him, it was like we spoken a few days prior. Again, I’m so sorry for your loss.
So very sad to hear of Gary’s passing. Both Lynda and I worked with Gary many years ago at the Waterford hospital.
Such a caring person.
Gary would have affected people where-ever he worked, as he was always a good listener and extremely interested in learning. I have a picture hanging in my house of the Bragg stage in Greenspond that he took and gave me when I left Wesleyville. He left this earth too soon. Condolences to his family.
Jackie & Curtis,
I am so sorry to hear of Gary’s passing. He fought so hard to stay with you both, but unfortunately there were other plans for him. I will never forget our many years working together & the fun we had as well as the wisdom he shared. He was a true friend who loved & lived life to the fullest. His generosity was beyond measure. We shared many a drink & meal & as stated many times, you never left his home empty handed with both belly & hands full. I will forever remember his very entertaining stories. He loved to laugh but I think received greater joy when he made someone else laugh.
You will be truly missed my friend.
Love and Prayers to you both Jackie & Curtis.
Christine Kelly

I met Gary in 1985 in orientation at the Waterford hospital. There were a group of us who became lifelong friends. Brad, Paul, Andy, Junior, Chris, and others. Gary stood out as one of the more sensible of the lot but would see him often at work and get togethers outside of work, at least a couple of times sampling his specialty – stir fried squid. Gary was unerringly a fun and pleasant person to be around, always smiling, genuinely kind and humble by nature.. We lost touch over time and distance but I thought of him often. He left an impression on me and will be missed. An uncommonly “good guy” through and through.
Jackie and Curtis, we were saddened to hear of Gary’s passing. He will be missed in Lead Cove, we always knew when you were out, the music and the laughter coming from your place meant you were in your happy place! We will miss his presence.I

To Gary’s family,
I have been trying to reconnect with Gary for many years and deeply saddened to make the connection through his passing. Gary was a fabulous friend who could be counted on for a good laugh and was always available to play ice hockey on the local pond or for a good game of poker, with the odd nip. Got to know him through our circle of friends in the Valleyfield area and also during my stint at MUN. All in all, a great person with a huge heart. He will definitely be missed by all. So sorry about your loss.

Gary used to counsel my mom and our family after my dad’s passing. He was always kind, and understanding. He really helped us through a difficult period. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.
It’s sad that it takes a death to know distant family members. Life takes us on many journeys far away and therefore we lose touch
I did not know Gary but as a distant relative, I want to say how sorry I am that yet another life is gone asleep in death.
But we do have the Precious Hope of seeing all our Loved ones again, here on Earth. Just as God’s Word, the Bible tells us.
John 5:28,28:
(28) Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice (29) and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.
Kurt

Jackie, Curtis and family..
We were incredibly saddened to learn of Gary’s passing. . We have shared so many wonderful experiences over the years. Gary loved music, gardening, good food and took great pleasure in sharing what he had with others.. He made the best nachos ever. Whenever we came to visit he would always make sure you had a little something from his freezer. His kindness and generosity were unmatched. We cherish the many memories created during our many May 24th weekends spent at the cabin in Lead Cove. Gary was a true friend and we feel so privileged and honoured to have had him in our lives. He will be truly missed.
Please accept our sincerest sympathy for your loss. We are thinking of you and Curtis and sending love and comfort during this difficult time. Gary was a wonderful husband and an amazing father, his legacy will always be remembered. He had a great sense of humour. He will be missed.
Gary’s family
I was a patient of Gary several years ago – his empathy and counselling helped me deal with the passing of my wife .
He was an important part of my life at that time.
Gary was a person who had exceptional interpersonal skills -he was kind and compassionate.
He talked often of his family to whom he was endeared .
Sincere condolences to those who mourn his passing .
Godspeed Gary
Dear Jackie and Curtis,
I was heartbroken to hear of your loss. Please accept my deepest and most sincere condolences.
What you both gave Gary in these last months—your time, your presence, your love—was extraordinary. Jackie, to care for him full-time was a selfless act of devotion. And Curtis joining your mom in that effort, standing by her side so neither of you had to face it alone, was a quiet act of courage and compassion.
Together, you surrounded him with the comfort of family, the peace of being known and loved, and the dignity that only comes when care is given from the heart.
I hope you’re both able to find moments of rest and comfort in the days ahead, even in the midst of your grief. And I hope you feel the deep respect and support of those around you — including me.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if there’s anything at all I can do.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Sharon Dalton

Jackie and Curtis,
So sorry to read about Gary’s passing.
I have many memories of our time working together in Mental Health ( so many stories to tell) and the fun we had when we were “almost” neighbours when you guys lived on Tweedsmuir. Gary helped Gord build our deck and there was always a feed of turbot cheeks. And then, Gary “saved” Adam when he fell in the river at the cabin.
Gary left us with wonderful memories and joy in our hearts. May he rest easy.
To Jackie,Curtis and the Parsons family,
So sorry to hear of Gary’s passing. My prayers are with you all at this sad time. Hold on to your memories which I’m sure there are many. Our condolences to you all.
