Gerald John Brown

November 6, 1932 to July 5, 2024

Obituary

Gerald John Brown (Gerry), husband of Lorraine (née Sheppard), brother of Wilson (Dodi), uncle to several nieces and nephews and a loyal friend died at St. John’s, NL on July 5, 2024.

Upon retirement from Revenue Canada, Gerry volunteered his time to several charities, both locally and internationally. “Serving the children around the world” through Kiwanis was his passion. Gerry was an active member of the Church of St. Michael and All Angels as well as the honorary Treasurer of the Diocese of Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador. During this time, he was named (the first) Lay Canon of the Anglican Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, St. John’s. Though he did not seek it, he was humbled and honoured by the recognition he received both in his work and through volunteering.

The family is thankful for the respect, dignity and excellent care administered by all the disciplines at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home. The staff on the 4th floor is especially recognized. In faith and hope we thank God for Gerry’s long life and for the support he so generously gave to family, friends and co- workers, community and church.

Graveside service and inurnment take place at the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road at 11:00 am on July 11, 2024 with Bishop Cyrus Pitman, a friend of many years officiating.

It was so sad to learn of the passing of a Jerry. Know that we are thinking of you, Lorraine at this most difficult time. The passing of a loved one is never easy but as with all people of Christian faith, we all know that when God calls us home we go willingly knowing that we will be fully embraced within the kingdom for all eternity. May this servant lay down his Earthly duties, separate from his loves in person and accept our Father’s divine love. One more of His flock has come home and Jerry will ensure that the way to heaven will be well lit for all of are fortunate enough to follow. May Jerry RIP and may his family and /friends find solace when we remember the long life that was lived and the way it was lived. A man of true faith who was always in the light, steadfast in his strong beliefs of the greatest power we will ever come to know., that being of our heavenly Father and creator., the Lord our God. Amen.

It was truly an honour to form part of his management team and work shoulder to shoulder for five years with the most professional group of Personnel employees who all thought the world of this Gentleman. Mrs. Brown. Thinking of you as your mourn the passing of this special man, your much loved husband.. I worked at Revenue Canada when Mr. Brown was the Director and I was on the Union Executive.. The day he retired, a lot of respect and dignity left the building with him. I sit here now with a smile remembering when I was in Grade lV at Bishop Spencer and you were my teacher. Each day when Mr. Brown came to pick you up, we would all swoon over his good looks and promised each other that when we grew up we were all going to marry a man like Mr. Brown. Mr. Brown was an honourable man and we did not always agree, but I always admired his ability to see things in a different light. May you take comfort in knowing that Mr. Brown’s gentle soul is now resting in the loving arms of our Savior. May he always rest in Peace and Love. HUGS
