It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our wonderful father and grandfather, Gerald Robert Squires at the age of 86 years, surrounded by his loving family.

Predeceased by his son Gerry in 1991, his wife Nina in 2016, his parents Peter and Rhoda Squires; brother Gordon Squires and sister Edith Mercer (Duncan); mother and father in law Fred and Mary Tucker; sisters in law Olga Dooley and Mary Whitten, brothers in law Reg (Beatie), Don Tucker, and Ron Martin; nephews, Barry Squires, Lloyd and Peter Mercer, Len Tucker, Gary Tucker; niece Marilyn Squires.

Leaving to mourn daughters, Elaine Marshall and Joanne Jones (Jake); granddaughters, Kaley Fitzgerald (Andrew) and Melanie Jones; sisters in law Eleanor Martin, Millie Tucker and Mary Squires; brothers in law, Fred Tucker (Lynda), Leonard Dooley and Jim Whitten; also a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Gerald cared deeply about his family and friends. He was a hard working and successful business man for many years in St. John’s.

Gerald and his beautiful cherished wife Nina spent many happy winters in Florida. They both enjoyed boating in the summer on the waters of Conception Bay. They were married for 61 years until Nina’s passing.

A very special thank you to Georgina Moulton Harris, a wonderful friend who has been a caring and dedicated support to Dad for the last 6 years. You were a friend to all of us, we don’t know what we would have done without you.

Thank you so much to all the amazing staff at Chancellor Park on 2 West. Thank you so much to Tom Forsey, who treated Dad like his own family member. Tom always went out of his way to make sure Dad was well cared for and had all his needs attended to. His kindness and friendship meant a lot to Dad and the family. Also many thanks to Melanie and Lisa for spending time with Dad, singing his favorite songs and making him feel special and loved.
