Obituary

Passed peaceful away after a very courageous battle with cancer on Saturday October 6, 2018 at the Dr. A. Leonard Miller Centre at the age of 63. Leaving with fond memories his soul mate Kimberley, their children Michael (Jill), Christopher (Mandi), Kathleen (Doug), Michael and Victoria (David), his precious granddaughter Paige, his parents Gerald and Maude, sisters Beverly (Cheikh) and Donna, brother in laws Ed Spurrell (Britta), Doug Spurrell (Michelle) and Glen Spurrell (Karen), along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Gerald had his career with the federal government in a couple of different departments, his passion throughout his career was protecting and representing his co-workers as a union steward and representative with PSAC. Through a downsizing, he ensured all his coworkers were protected in jobs before trying to protect his own.

A very special thanks to the nurses and doctors at the cancer clinic for their special care during the four years he battled. To the nurses, doctors and staff at the Palliative Care unit, words cannot express our thanks. You made Gerald’s last days, and our last days with him, the best they could be.

Following his wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2pm to 9pm. A memorial service will be held at Carnell Memorial Chapel on Thursday at 11am with internment to follow. Flowers gratefully accepted, or a donation can be made in Gerald’s memory to the Dr. H Bliss Cancer Clinic or the Palliative Care Unit at the Dr. A Leonard Miller Centre.
