Aunt Gertrude was a nursing graduate of St.Clare’s Mercy Hospital, Class of 1949, and of this career, she was extremely proud. Nursing became her life-long vocation, commencing at St. Clare’s, followed by New Jersey – USA, the provincial and federal levels throughout Newfoundland, and as well, in her personal devotion to immediate family members. While early in her career, she spent some time in New Jersey, a hospital experience she cherished, it was first and foremost, St. Clare’s, her alma mater, that she held with pride and esteem. In 1971-1972, to further her professional endeavours, she attended Dalhousie University, in Nova Scotia, where she completed her Public Health Nursing Program. She then returned to Gander as Nursing Director at the Federal Health and Immigration Department before moving to St. John’s in a similar position.

A special thank you to all the staff of Chancellor Park for the care given to our aunt over the past several years.
