Obituary
Passed peacefully away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday May 11, 2022, at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, Gertrude Munn Churchill, age 86 years.
Predeceased by her parents Alfred and Amelia (nee Picco) Hibbs and husband Egbert Churchill.
Left to mourn her children, Bernard (Linda), Merville (Phyllis), Levi (Ann Marie), Regina McDonald (Keith) and Walter (Mary Ann); also a large circle loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends.
Special thanks to Dr. Genge and her team, the staff of St. Clare’s 7 West, the staff of Bayview Heights Manor and the staff of Murphy’s Personal Care Home.
Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road from 5-9 p.m. Thursday May 12th.
Funeral to take place on Friday, May 13th, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. from Memorial United Church, Portugal Cove. Interment to follow in the Memorial United Church Cemetery, Bauline Line, Portugal Cove.
Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to Memorial United Church, Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s.

To all my Churchill family in Newfoundland, especially young Burn, Mervile, Levi, Regina and Walter, my cousins, my heart and prayers go out to you all!
This is Debbie Smith (nee Loder) your cousin from Ontario. My mom was Marie Loder (nee Gillingham) who was Uncle Eck’s sister, your mom’s sister-in-law.
I remember meeting Aunt Gert and Uncle Eck when I was 4 years old back in 1972 with a visit to Newfoundland with Mom and Dad (your Aunt Marie and Uncle Guy).
Living here in Ontario with the other Churchill and Gillingham families, I heard of different stories over the years from Aunt Gertie (Uncle Henry), Uncle Doug (Aunt Frances), Uncle Burn (Aunt Ann) and Uncle Nelson (Aunt Eileen) and also from Nanny Gillingham when she moved to Ontario to live with Aunt Gertie, Uncle Henry and their 3 boys back in 1975.
I wish I could turn back the clock and get to know both your mom and dad better (as well as the rest of my Churchill family’s) but finances and distance kept us apart all these years.
