It is with saddened hearts that the Benson family announces the passing of their beloved Glen. A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and father-in-law. Glen had battled an illness since December of 2024, he passed away peacefully on Thursday January 29th, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Elizabeth (Liz), son Mark, daughter in law Mary and his precious granddaughter Megan, brother Bruce (Elaine) and large family of brother and sister in laws, and many nieces and nephews that had the privilege of calling him uncle.
Glen is predeceased by; his parents Allen and Rowena Benson; parents in law Joseph and Mary Myles; brothers in law Rudolph Myles and Gus Hynes.
Glen was born in Grand Falls, NL on June 23, 1955, and ventured to Labrador City in 1976 where he worked as an electrician for the Iron Ore Company of Canada for 30 years. During the late seventies he met and married his beautiful wife, Elizabeth Myles. He often commented, “the best thing I ever did in my life was put a ring on her finger.” Following his retirement in 2006, he worked 5 years for a Crane Company as manager in the Labrador City office. He left Labrador City in 2011, moving to Paradise NL, where they were close to their family. The apple of his eye was his granddaughter, Megan. He simply adored her and was so grateful to be able to celebrate her birthdays, special occasions, playdates in the park, and Friday night sleep overs followed by Saturday morning breakfasts at Robins. Although his heart was filled by Megan, he had room in his heart for so many of his family and friends’ children; his acts of kindness and compassion was embraced by all of them. These children will never forget their uncle Glen and the kindness he showed to them. After moving back to Newfoundland, Glen enjoyed spending time with friends and family playing marble web and cards, traveling throughout Newfoundland and making great memories. Line dancing was a highlight activity for Glen. They immersed themselves in the couples’ line dancing and mastered many dances, their favorite being “Whiskey Wiggle”. They frequently travelled to New Brunswick to dance with the Northern Lights Dance Club where they made many lasting friends. The man, the myth, the legend. To many, this was a perfect description of Glen. He was just that, a larger-than-life guy, and always full of wit and wisdom. Glen’s huge magnetic smile and big belly laugh never failed to light up a room. He loved telling stories about his childhood memories, time spent in Labrador, the sugar bush, MM&M (Mark, Mary & Megan) and his retirement with Liz. He was a tremendous and loyal friend who would go that extra mile to help family, friends and strangers. If you were in trouble, you knew you could call on him. His friends celebrate Glen’s uniqueness, and we know heaven will be enriched by his presence.
The memories you made will forever be cherished. Your family and friends are grateful to have had you in their lives; your antics and humor enhanced the memories we shared with you.
God love your cotton socks Glen. We love you and may you rest in peace.
Cremation has taken place, and inurnment to follow at a later date.

My cousin, but in many ways, more like a dear uncle…someone who was full of deep wisdom, generosity, support and oh, that wit! I can practically hear his gleeful laugh and see that mischievous twinkle in his eye.

I meet Glen over the last year and he’s become one of those people I looked forward to chatting with. His smile and soul make my day better and having gotten to know him just a little has brightened my life. Deepest condolences to his family as they learn to navigate the world without him. Not too long ago he looked at me and said “I’ve had the best 70 years” and I know he meant it. I will miss him every day.

Liz and family,
Saddened to hear of Glen’s passing. He was always ready and willing to lend a hand to his neighbors when you guys lived on our street. Rob remembers a time when he came over to our garage and helped with the snowblower. He picked up three different belts for the snowblower before finding one that worked. Every winter we speak about Glen and how much we miss seeing him on his tractor clearing snow. Thinking about you during this very difficult time.

Liz and family,
Myself, Kris, Riley and Colin were so saddened to hear of Glen’s passing. Even though you guys have been gone from Spracklin for years, we speak of you both regularly. The boys will always remember getting rides in Glen’s tractor and I can still remember how they would watch from our living room window in awe as Glen would come and plow our driveway for us when Kris was offshore. He could never do enough for us. When I was pregnant with Colin I remember him scolding me not to be hauling out the garbage bin and that he would do it. He certainly touched the hearts of all the people he met and his legacy is a strong one. Sending you all the love and strength in the coming weeks. ❤️
