It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Moffatt, age 70, on May 27, 2026.
He will be deeply missed by his children, Sarah, Hannah (Lenny Leblanc), Will (Kayla), and Grant (Robyn); his grandchildren, Sophie, Reagan, Jack, and Nora; Kate Chalker; his siblings, Cathy Moffatt, Heather Edstrom, Ruth Anne Dickson (Alan), and Donald Moffatt (Sybil); his Dinner Club friends, as well as many family members. He was predeceased by his brother, John.
Gordon was known for his easy-going, upbeat personality and his short phone calls. He had a distinctive laugh and the ability to find humour in everyday life. He could often be found bobbing along to music or singing one-liners like, “I get all my news on the weather report.”
He was the kind of dad who would spend hours driving his kids and their friends wherever they needed to go. He loved swimming in lakes, exploratory road trips, and any dessert with blueberries.
He will be remembered for his warmth, humour, and the many ways he showed he cared.
Dear Kate and family. So very sorry to hear this news of Gordon’s passing.. I knew him since high school and enjoyed his company whenever we met over the years. Please know we are thinking of you at this difficult time.

I am so sorry to hear of Gordon’s passing. We were children together, in school, in and out of each other’s houses, around the neighbourhood….the very best of times. He will always be a special part of my memories. I never picture him without a smile and a laugh. . My deepest condolences to his families in Newfoundland and Cape Breton.
Sending my sincere condolences to the Moffett family .
My condolences to Gordon’s families from NL and CB. He was a wonderful caring person in our neighbourhood growing up and as a friend.
Sending sincere condolences to Kate, Sarah, Hannah, Will, and Grant and all Gord’s family and friends. Amanda and Gavin Will.
Sending our sincere condolences to the Moffatt family for your loss.
My sincere condolences to the Moffatt family.
My sympathy to the family and friends of Gordon Moffatt. Gordon is intertwined with the history of Newfoundland having taken on, and beaten, CN Rail over their decision to not provide him with a Terms of Union freight rate for fish batter when they did have a rate for flour – fish batter is simply flour with a few spices added. Gordon was a proud Newfoundlander and will be missed.
To Gordon’s children, their families and to Gordon’s siblings and their families. . I am sending condolences to each of you as you grieve his passing.. such a sad time indeed for each of you. As one of the Truro cousins, I remember so many fun filled and special times spent with the Sydney gang after our move to Truro. Big families make for loads of chaos and the special times spent together are wonderful memories. I hope the sadness of now is tempered by knowing that Gordon has found peace and rest. Sending love to all the Moffatt clan.
Fondly , Debbie Moffatt MacLellan, Truro
Sending sincere condolences to Gordon’s family.
I have many fond memories of Gordons’s visits to my office. His visits were always impromptu, short and very pleasant. You could always count on his smile and some rather funny stories. He was always trying to cook up some sort of business deal with me which was often interrupted by a cell phone call and he would be quickly out the door.. He would say I will talk to you again Franco and I would look forward to his next unexpected visit.
He will be missed
Franco Miccolis

As the father of my son’s best friend, I would love to run in to Gord form time to time, as no matter what was going on, he would leave me laughing. I recall him telling me the story of his “Dinner Club” friends and how they nicknamed each other based on where they thought each ranked in closeness of passing away. Gord was proud of the fact that he ranked number 5 at the time….lol….well today you are number one Gord,, but I know you were always number 1 in others ways to your family, friends and anyone that had the pleasure of your presence….condolences to families and Grant and keep those many happy moments in your hearts forever….Donna and Carl Burt and family
So sorry for your loss. Sending our condolences to you all at this difficult time.
Sending heartfelt condolences to Gord’s family. ❤️
Gordon was my uncle, and what I’ll never forget that he was the first adult to treat “the kids” like we could sit at the adult table and hang out.
Uncle Gordon was the adult I looked for when I arrived to a family gathering growing up, and with his jovial personality, he welcomed everybody, everytime. I’ll never forget how Gordon was the cool uncle. Uncle Gordon, may you rest in peace.
Hannah and family

Sincere condolences to the Family. I have fond memories of Gord and pick-up basketball at MUN back in the day. That bellicose laugh was an original. Rest in peace Gord.,
I was so saddened to hear about the passing of my cousin. We shared so many great memories growing up, especially during the years when our family cottages were side by side. Some of my best memories are from those summers — the laughs, the adventures, and the friendship we had as kids.
Even though life took us in different directions over the years, I’ll always remember those times fondly and carry them with me. Thinking of the whole family and sending my deepest condolences during this difficult time.
Another gentle soul has gone to his rest. Sincere condolences to the Moffatt and extended families on the passing of Gordon, a true gentleman . My prayers and thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
My condolences to the Moffatt family. I’ve known Gord since our MUN days and we played Jr. Varisty together .
Great person . Rest in Peace .
Sorry to read this news. My sympathies to his wonderful family. Good memories from our university days – always a positive guy, always carrying a big smile, and always happy to share a few minutes with friends.
Gordon was a close friend when we were growing up in Sydney. And, while we kept in touch only sporadically (with one line texts from him!) in subsequent years, he was the kind of person whom you could feel close to forever. He was always positive and caring. We have lost a true gentle man and he will be missed.
