Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Grace Howell, who peacefully left us at Kenny’s Pond Retirement Community in St, John’s, NL on January 03, 2025, at the age of 96 years.  Grace was predeceased by her loving husband, John, with whom she shared 49 wonderful years of marriage and her two brothers Eric and Edgar.  She is survived by her two children, Diane (Peter Ewens) and Karen (Michael Woolfrey), her cherished granddaughter, Jacqueline (Dane Smith), and her five nieces and two nephews.  Also leaving to mourn is special friend, Betty Dowden.

Grace was born and raised in Carbonear.  She was married in Hamilton, ON and returned to Newfoundland in 1954 where she lived for the remainder of her life and raised her family in St. John’s.  She was known for her warm spirit and dedication to her family.  A devoted mother and grandmother, she brought joy and love to all who knew her.  Her kindness and compassion left a lasting impression on her friends and community.  As we celebrate her life, we remember her laughter, wisdom, and the countless memories she created with her loved ones.

The family would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the staff at Kenny’s Pond who provided professional and respectful care to Grace during the last 1.5 years.  You have given us peace of mind and allowed her to live with dignity.  Also, a very special thank you to our cousin, Michele Case, who has been an invaluable source of unwavering support.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held in her honor, details to be announced at a later date.  Cremation has taken place.

Her sprit will continue to inspire us, and her memory will be forever cherished.

She now dances with angels.  Life is not forever but love is.

Karen and Diane and all your loved ones.

We have such fond memories of your mother, most during her many visits with the Blackmore family over so many years. When we visited with our parents when your mother was there, it was always her warmth, smile and gentle manner that made it such a pleasure to spend time with her.
We know your loss is deep and we send our heartfelt condolences.

Diane, Karen and family, I was so sad to hear about Grace’s passing . I had the good fortune of seeing her just 2 days before. She was a very special lady and certainly a wonderful friend to my parents . I’m sure you will miss her terribly., as will everyone who knew her. I hope the wonderful memories you have of her will help you all through this difficult time.

Very sorry to hear of the loss of your mother . I have many fond memories of Grace during our fitness classes and really enjoyed spending time with her.

I read this with sadness but it helps to know Aunt Grace lived a wonderful and full life. Seeing her photo brought back memories of being in her home. I can even hear her voice. She was always so warm and kind. I know Mom (Marilyn) really had a soft spot and a lot of love for her. Thinking of you all and sending my deepest condolences and love. xo

Karen, Mike and family. Derick and I were saddened to hear about Grace’s passing. She had a wonderful long life. I always smile when i recount her story of asking the waiter at a restaurant if the salmon was Atlantic or Pacific. When she learned it was Pacific, she ordered the chicken. She was a proud Newfoundlander.

Sorry to hear the news of Grace’s passing. Grace was a wonderful person. We enjoyed her as a great neighbor and then a delightful friend. Her family meant the world to her. She was so proud of all her family, and she was always looked after like a gueen, which she was. We will miss Grace. We speak of her so often.
