In Loving Memory of Gueorgi Skhirtladze.
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Gueorgi Skhirtladze, at the age of 75, a cherished husband, father, and grandfather who lived a full and vibrant life, filled with love, laughter, and devotion to his family.
Leaving an enormous void in the lives and hearts of his wife of 50 years, Tamara Skhirtladze; his son, Irakly Skhirtladze, and his wife, Ivy, with their children, Anna, Sofia, and George; and his daughter, Olga Cappuccio, and her husband, Michael, along with their daughters, Carmela and Sabrina.
A true family man, Gueorgi’s greatest joy came from spending time with his loved ones, sharing in their laughter, achievements, and milestones. He was a great storyteller whose tales captivated all who listened, bringing history and humor to life. An avid traveler, Gueorgi found joy in exploring the world and embracing its cultures, often returning with stories and experiences that enriched the lives of his family.
Gueorgi Skhirtladze began his career as a scientist in Russia, earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Atmospheric and Meteorological Science with a focus on the study of cloud formation. His research later expanded to the dynamics of cloud formations and movements during hurricanes. Notably, he participated in a groundbreaking Russian expedition in Cuba in 1988, flying many times into the eye of a major Hurricane Gilbert to improve predictions of hurricane paths.
After immigrating to Canada in 1992, -Gueorgi Skhirtladze founded Altamar Atlantic Ltd., a seafood processing and export company based in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Under his leadership the company has built a reputation for delivering high-quality seafood products to discerning markets worldwide.
He worked with a high level of precision, professionalism and integrity. Gueorgi was loved and respected by many, making many lifelong friends along the way.
He was also an animal lover, with a special place in his heart for his dogs and cats. However, nothing brought him more happiness than his grandchildren, whom he loved beyond measure. Gueorgi played an active role in their lives, teaching them valuable lessons and skills such as swimming, playing sports, tennis, music, cooking and so much more. His influence will be felt in their hearts and lives forever.
Gueorgi was an avid sports enthusiast who not only loved playing soccer but also found joy in watching the game, as well as tennis. In his later years, he developed a love for cooking, delighting family and friends with his culinary creations. His Georgian shish kebabs and khinkali were legendary, a true testament to his skill and heart in the kitchen.
He also had a deep connection to the ocean and cherished his time in Florida where he could relax and enjoy the beauty of the sea. Time spent in Florida brought him peace and happiness, creating cherished memories for all who shared those moments with him.
Those who knew him will always remember his warmth, his sense of humor, and his ability to bring people together, whether through sports, cooking, storytelling, or simply his presence.
Gueorgi’s warmth, generosity, and unwavering love will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. While we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the beautiful life he led and the profound impact he had on those around him.
Rest in peace, Gueorgi. You will always be loved and remembered. Your legacy of love, joy, and stories will live on in all of us.
