Our Deepest condolences to the Handcock family. I worked with Dave for nearly five years at NL Hydro and recently reconnected with him via his daughter Amy .over the last several years. He was very proud of his daughters and deeply loved his grandchildren ,often playing with them and introducing them to out door pursuits if only in his back yard. His was a light extinguished way to early and his pleasant smile and gentle humour will be missed by all that knew him.

I was so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. He always brought a smile and a sense of humor wherever he went. A very kind man who will certainly be missed.

So sorry to hear of Dave’s (Hank’s) passing. He was such a great co-worker and fun loving guy. Many fond memories of our Huff and Puff hockey trips and regular Thursday night Hockey with the Hydro Crew. You will be forever missed. Thoughts and prayers are with the Family .

So sorry to hear of Hanks passing . Dave was our manager in my junior Shamrocks days , i have fond memories of sharing a bag of Hawkins cheesies on the bench when i was fillimg the backup role. Also many memories of seeing Dave at karoake on Fridays at the Sundance Saloon in the earlier days of our lives. We didnt have alot of contact in recent years but occassional a reunion or a facebook chat would bring us back to the good old days. Dave was certainly a fun loving , kind & gentle soul who always brought a smile to your face with his dry wit and his love for sports and rock n roll. RIP Hank , you were a great example of a contentment & happiness that we can all aspire to emulate. Shamrocks Forever

Watched the service online today, and enjoyed the wonderful tributes to cousin Dave, and the beautiful song selections. My most fond memories of Dave were of his great sense of humour. On behalf of my family my condolences to his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by so many.

Saddened to hear of Dave’s Passing I worked with Dave at Nl Hydro for many years. Dave was a good laugh and always knew when to give you the chuckle you needed. He will be missed by whoever had the pleasure to knew him.
Rest easy my friend.
Debbie Ryan

There is not much more that can be said then what is outlined in the condolences below by friends and co-workers. Dave was certainly a talented and well respected individual who would literally give the shirt of his back if you needed it. His wit and gift of knowledge for such things as music and sports was truly amazing.
I am honestly blessed to say I have known him for the last 36 years, and had the pleasure of being entertained by Hank on many occasions. He truly had the gift to make you laugh for sure. I can still remember and smile at some of his antics from days gone by, a simple joke, or some of his fine impressions he did. He was legend in the Hydro community and I’m sure where ever he is right now he’s entertaining. He also did a great Santa Claus for kids simply so he could see them smile and have the twinkle in their eyes. Rest in peace Hank my friend, thank you for all the smiles you provided.
To Dave’s family, I know there are no words that can ease the pain of your loss at this time. I wish you comfort and strength to move forward with all the great memories of Dave. He will be missed.

We were saddened to here of Dave’s passing. Having worked with Dave for quite a few years I new him well.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time.

I knew Dave from years of working at Ches’s Fish and Chips. He would stop in on his way home from work or picking up his daughter and always bring the staff candy. He was such a nice, kind and thoughtful man. Truly sorry to see him gone so soon.

Sandra, Amy, Kayla and Family, please accept my sincere condolences to all of you on your loss. I had the great privilege of being part of Dave’s entourage during many annual NL Hydro curling bonspiels in Grand Falls. During those weekend visits to Grand Falls, we always drove out to Cona Beach which was dear to Dave’s heart because of his family summer visits. Rest In Peace my friend and rock on in heaven.

I was shocked to hear of David’s passing, especially since we had just been communicating hours before. He was my cousin, who growing up, lived in the City of St. John’s. I was a Bayman, and our regular visits to Aunt Ruby & Uncle Harold’s were always such interesting times. I remember spending time with David, especially after I moved to “Town” and literally lived at their house on Newtown Road. As others have mentioned David loved sports, music, and trivia ….there is no end to the stuff he knew – or made it appear as though he knew! Lot’s of Tennis and Softball in the summers and Hockey in the Winter. His love of music was always on display – in fact the night before his passing – I was in Winslow, Arizona and he wanted to see pics of me standing on the corner – a spot made famous by the Eagles! I will miss our chats and comments back and forth on social media. My condolences to Sandra, and the Girls, Uncle Harold, Gary, Victor, and Paul and their families, and to all other relatives and friends. RIP my brother, “Take it Easy”!

So sorry to learn of Dave’s passing. He was a true gentleman and was always up for a good time. Lots of fun was had both on and off the ice at the Hydro Huff & Puff and National Utilities Tournament. My condolences go out to his entire family. Rest in Peace Hanker!!

Very sorry to learn of Dave’s passing, my sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

I am saddened to learn of Dave’s passing. I had the pleasure of knowing him during the NL Hydro days and working with him on a few committees. He always had a smile for everyone and had a great sense of humour. Sincere condolences to his friends and family on his passing. Dave, may you Rest In Peace and rise in glory!

Unbeknownst to most everyone, I first met and became a best school chum of Dave in Grade 1 at Blackall Memoriial School, then Bishop Abraham and finally we graduated together at PWC. In 1975.
As I read all the condolences here, it became quite apparent that Hank was truly a free spirit whom was known exactly the same by everyone. Obviously there are a host of words and phrases that are common, yet many, to describe the unique individual that he was.. but there is one simple word that to me sums up Dave Hancock. GENUINE. I haven’t ever used that word to describe any individual until now. As all the stories are being told anyone who did not have the blessing to have known Hank will feel they have not just met him but known him almost as well as anybody. He spread all the unique gifts that he possessed without any fan fare and in an unprecedented fun yet informative way.
I am blessed to have known you Hank. I know you now have heaven in stitches, but they are much more knowledgeable now.

It was a shock to learn of David’s passing. It truly seems unreal.
David and I grew up together as we were cousins and about the same age. The Hancock house was like a second home to me, so familier and welcoming to anybody at any time.
David was always such fun to be around. Great sense of humor!, never had a bad word for anyone. He was smart but never in a show- offish way. Great memory for trivia; sports trivia, music trivia, world events, you name it, he knew it. Kind of like having the Internet at your fingertips before there was an Internet
When our family moved to Halifax David would visit regularly once every year. Told me it was the best times he ever had. I won’t ever forget that. After moving to Toronto I always thought of going to St John’s to visit.. Would have loved to spend some time again with David, some fun times, relive the old days, maybe even get into some new mischief. Regretfully, I never did.
But at least we have our memories. And like what so many others here have shared, mine are good memories, happy memories.Memories of a good and kind and friendly man who was a joy to be around. I’ll miss him always.
To Gary, Victor, Paul, and Uncle Herpld I’m sorry for your loss. He was a wonderful brother and son.I know that you’re all so proud of him.

Paul and family,

Gary and I wish to send our heartfelt condolences. We were saddened to learn of your loss. The loss of a sibling leaves a big void – hold onto your precious memories. May he RIP

Daphne
