The Celebration of Heather’s Life will be held on Thursday, August 1st, 2024 at 11 a.m.
from the Carnell Memorial Chapel.
Heather (MacDonald) Anderson lived a life accentuated by two great loves, life-long learning and her deeply treasured relationship with predeceased husband, Jim Anderson. Born November 6th, 1941, Heather was the only child of Ernest and Gladys Baird MacDonald. Though long deceased, Heather often spoke of her mother’s determined personality which she felt was a direct result of losing her arm and shoulder early in life. Those who knew Heather would agree that she too brought determination, great thought, and precision to all aspects of her life.
Heather taught English Literature and Language at Prince of Wales Collegiate for fourteen years before leaving the profession early to join Jimmy in retirement. Though no longer an active teacher, she remained very interested in hearing from and connecting with her former students.
Heather was an excellent bridge player. She followed world news very closely. She had a keen interest in sports, particularly baseball and tennis, and as an avid reader, she greatly enjoyed books from the NL library home reader program. With a desire to share her love of reading, she volunteered with the CNIB during her earlier years, taking time to read aloud to vision-impaired individuals.
Heather passed away peacefully on July 20th, 2024 at Tiffany Towers where she has resided for the past four years. Much gratitude is extended to the dedicated 8th floor staff for the care they provided Heather in the later years of her life. As well, Heather’s dear, long-term friends, Helen Goodridge and Clyde Flight, were tireless in their efforts to shower Heather with friendship and compassion.
At Heather’s request, there will be no visitation. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, August 1st, 2024 at 11am from the Carnell Memorial Chapel.
No flowers by request, donations in her memory may be made to The Gathering Place.

My deepest condolences to Mrs. Anderson’s family and friends. I was one of the lucky students who had Mrs. Anderson’s as an English teacher at PWC. Though English was not my strongest class, she always inspired me to do my best and I did not want to disappoint her. She was amazing lady
Condolences to Heather’s family & friends. I have many fond memories of her, as my teacher at PWC. She was lively and always kept her students engaged!
For many years, Heather was a cherished friend of my uncle, Millar Ewing, and was a part of many family gatherings. We made a particular connection through our shared love of teaching and literature. Heather was always interested in hearing news of travels, careers, and what you were reading. I will remember Heather for her lively conversation, her keen sense of humour, and her pride in being a Newfoundlander. She was a classy lady.
My deepest condolences to Mrs. Anderson’s family and friends. I was very saddened to learn of her passing. I was in Mrs. Anderson’s homeroom in grade 11. She was one of my favourite teachers and I was fortunate to be in her English class during my entire time at PWC. Her love of education, breadth of knowledge and sense of humour always made for an engaging class. Mrs. Anderson brought Shakespeare to life and inspired the love of literature I have to this day. It is obvious that I am one of many who feel this way. A fine legacy indeed.
I was a student of hers at PWC, she was a super great teacher and lady, please accept my deepest condolences
To family and friends of Heather Anderson,
I formed a bond with Heather through her companionship with Millar Ewing. She was always gracious and loved interesting conversation.
Heather was a precise and orderly woman of high standards and wide interests. She was a fan of sports always recording games to watch on her own time. An avid reader who enjoyed having a number of books from the public library dropped off on a regular basis. Hers was an example of a life well lived.
My sincere condolences
I only spoke of Heather last week, wondering how she was.I am truly sorry to see Heather has passed.
I had the pleasure of doing Heathers hair at the salon and made many a visit to her condo when she wasn’t well.
We had many conversations about a tennis open, which we both loved.
She truly was a remarkable women who left an indelible impression
Rest easy Heather🙏😢🌸🌺💕
So sorry to be reading this .. I had many fond memories of her both at PWC and her bridge games with my mum …. Always so pleasant
Sincere condolences to Mrs. Anderson’s family & close friends. I have so many fond memories of her from my days at the Newfoundland Public Libraries. She was so smart, funny and well-informed and lady in every way, as was her beautiful mother. It was always a pleasure to see them.
My sincere condolences to Mrs. Anderson’s family. She leaves a remarkable and enduring legacy. I was one of her students many, many years ago. She had such a sharp mind and taught us so much about the world – and how to have a voice in it. That’s been passed on and on and on – a little bit of eternity in her work.
“Our revels now are ended. These our actors,
As I foretold you, were all spirits and
Are melted into air, into thin air:
And, like the baseless fabric of this vision,
The cloud-capp’d towers, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff
As dreams are made on, and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep.”
William Shakespeare
From The Tempest, Act 4 Scene 1
Mrs. Andersen was my absolute favourite high school teacher by far. She was so smart, witty, and she obviously loved teaching. She might come off as serious on the one hand, but there was always a twinkle in her eye, and she only wanted the very best for her students. I always admired her energy, intelligence, and good humour, and thought fondly of her often over the years. How fortunate I feel to count myself among the many who have plenty of wonderful memories about this marvellous lady. May she rest in peace and may this sad time for her family soon turn to only to happy memories.
so sorry to read today that Mrs. Anderson has passed away. She was a remarkable educator who brought Shakespeare to life.. She was genuinely concerned about all her students and in her own way had a very unique sense of humour.
I was so fortunate to reconnect with Mrs. Anderson over the last little while visiting another family member at Tiffany.
While in declining health, that twinkle in her eyes was still present
To all friends, family and colleagues I extend my most sincere sympathy
