Passed away on January 14th, 2021, at St. Luke’s Nursing Home.  St. Luke’s was her home for ten years as she had faced health challenges with Alzheimer’s dementia. It was a prolonged good-bye as her memory declined.  She left this life with daughter Tammy and sister Sharon at her side during a COVID pandemic shutdown. Carnell’s facilitated a short visitation followed by a Christian burial at Holy Sepulchre on January 15, 2021 within twenty-two hours of her death.

She was predeceased by her son Derek Richard in 1979, husband John (Jack) Francis in 1983 and son John (Jackie) Michael in 2004.These losses affected Helen immensely giving her a strong voice against drunk driving, and to advocate for mental health and cancer awareness. She was also predeceased by mother Ellen (Parsons) Power, father Leo Power, brothers Gordon (Gord), John (Jack) and Neil Power, sister Judith (Judy) Martin all of St. John’s. She has just lost her sister Catherine (Kay) Bourdeau, Montreal, QC on July 31st, 2022.

Left with many memories of Helen’s strong personality, hard work ethic and determination are her daughters Nicole (Jacques DeSousa) of Brussels, Belgium, Tammy (Keough-Ryan) (Kurt) of Halifax, NS, sons Todd of Timberlea, NS, Craig of Quebec City, QC, Randall (Randy) (Kristi) of Lake Orion, MI, grandchildren Brendhan Keough, Derek Ryan, Devon Keough, Forbes Keough, and brothers Douglas (Doug) Power of Ottawa, Randall (Randy) (Judith) Power of Manta, Ecuador, sisters Yvonne (Michael) Deaton, Howell, MI,  and Sharon Manuel of Paradise, NL. Many nieces and nephews and other extended family.

Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 5, 2022 at 1:00 pm at the Carnell Memorial Chapel, 329 Freshwater Road. A reception will follow on site.

In lieu of flowers, acts of kindness to the sick, underprivileged and/or health challenged would be appreciated.  We acknowledge the many front line staff, multidisciplinary team members, friends, and extended family who with empathy cared for Helen. Through her trajectory of health decline, you daily found ways to reach Helen and make her smile. You were her and are our heroes. Thank you.

To the Keough family sorry to hear about your loss
by Paul Martin

Watched the service on line , very beautiful and respectful .May Helen Rest In Peace.

Hi Tammy. Thanks to the link I was able to view your Mom’s service a few minutes late as I had a previous work engagement. Thinking of all of you today as you pay tribute to your Mom. xoxo

We were deeply saddened to hear of Helen’s passing. We had many great laughs and fun with Helen whether it was line dancing, TaiChi or when she and Maureen were studying medical terminology together. We all grew up in the same area and she was a great friend and we always kept in touch. Helen was a beautiful person inside and out and will be dearly missed.

To Helen’s Family I remember her so fondly from the Janeway where she volunteered. She always had a smile even when she had challenges. We were so grateful for her contribution and friendship. I visited her a few times at the home and only this pass week enquired of her as I did not know that she had passed away. Sending sincere condolences to all of her family. I would like to leave you a quote although I don’t recall the author “ To live in the hearts of those we love is to never die. Blessings & Peace. Maude Peach
