Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on January 8, 2026; Calvin Reid, age 78.
Predeceased by his parents Heman & Clara Reid and parents-in-law William & Mary Field.
Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 50 years, Betty Reid (nee Field); daughter, Sherry-Lynn, son-in-law Scott Strickland; grandchildren Dylan, Devon, and Paige; son Darryl, daughter-in-law Jennifer O’Leary; grandchildren Mackenzie, Hayley and Cameron; Furry grandbabies Jack, Tiny and Lacey; Brother Donald, niece Christeena Scenna (Paul); niece Alexandria and nephews Josh; nephew Greg (Tammy) & daughter Teresa; Brothers and sisters-in-law Albert (Kay deceased), Phil (Nina deceased), Val (Barb), Dot (Pat deceased), Olive (Ed), Robert (Bernadette), Gladys (Paul), Bernice (Lawrence), Shirley & Lucille (Mike), and a large circle of nieces and nephews. Also leaving to mourn his best buddy, Albert Ralph, of Winterbrook.
Cal grew up in Winterbrook, Bonavista Bay, where he spent May to October every year. He was a hard working man who loved being in the woods, cutting wood, and taking his grandchildren for a boil up and rides on the quad.
Thank you to the nurses and doctors on 4 South B at the Health Sciences Centre and to Dr. Paul Heneghan for all Cal’s vascular care.
Thank you to Steve Chafe and Alex Afonso of the Afonso Group for your kindness over the years even after retirement.
Thank you to brother-in-law, Lawrence Gardiman, for all the adventures, excursions and meals over the years.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13th.
Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, January 14th, 2026 at 11 am at the Carnell Memorial Chapel.
No flowers by request.
