Howard Locklyn Harnum

Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved father, husband, and brother.
Howard (Howie) Locklyn Harnum, passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family at Saint Luke’s Home, St. John’s, NL, on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at the age of 81 years.

Born in 1935, as the second child of Jonas and Camilla Harnum, and little brother to Selwyn (1931-1990), in the community of Heart’s Delight, NL, Howard grew up with a love of fishing on the open water, and eventually fell in love and married his first wife Violet Harnum (Hillier) (1936-1989), with whom he had three children; Wayne Harnum (Dianne), Lorne Harnum (Tina), and Rosalind Meadus (Douglas), who blessed him with four grandchildren, Matthew, Stephanie, Dustin and Duane.

After the untimely death of his beloved Violet, Howard met and fell in love with his current wife of the past twenty-seven years, Joan Harnum (Hall), to which he selflessly extended his circle of love, family and cherished memories to her and his step-children, Christopher Mesher (Jodi), Nicole Spencer (Byron), Lisa Crocker (Tommy) and David Mesher, who blessed him with an additional six grandchildren; Alexia, Alecia, Amber, Max, Jack and Chase.

An eternally grateful and happy man, Howard was often recognized by anyone who had ever walked through the turnstiles of St. John’s Memorial Stadium, where he spent thirty-three wonderful years working for the City of St. John’s.

Howard was a proud and selfless man, who cherished all of earth’s creatures big and small, especially his many varied and beloved pets over the course of his lifetime. He was extremely caring, loyal and modest, placing great value on friendship, kindness, and a welcoming hand.

He will be forever loved and remembered fondly by a large circle of family, friends and the many thousands of ticket holders, to which he was always eager to greet with a friendly nod and a warm smile.

Special thanks to the many staff members of Trinity Square, Saint Luke’s Home, St. John’s NL, who provided Howard with a home away from home during the last years of his life. The dedication, professionalism and care you bestowed upon him will never be forgotten.

Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s, on Monday, June 19, from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral service to take place on Tuesday, June 20, at 9:30 from the Carnell Memorial Chapel. Internment to follow at The Anglican Cemetery, Heart’s Delight, NL.

Donations in his memory may be made to the local chapter of the SPCA or any charity of choice.

Sorry to hear of your Father’s passing. Howard and Violet would always stop by for a visit when they were around the bay and we played many games of cards. Rosemary and Family

Rosalind, Wayne, Lorne, Joan and families,

Got the news of Howie’s passing last night from former co-worker and friend. Thinking of you all at this sad time and sending prayers your way.
In my career, there have been many Residents that have touched my heart, but no one like Him. I dearly loved him, and he knew it too. He always called me “Wanda” and that was special to me, cause no one else ever called me that other than my Pop. I left St. Luke’s almost 3 years ago, and I can’t tell you how often I’ve thought of him, or spoke his name. I’ll never forget him.
Just wanted to let you all know, that he was truly a very special Man, who also touched the hearts of many other people, including mine.

My Deepest Condolences to you all,
Rhonda Blackmore
