It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Lewis John Wells (affectionately known as Jack Wells) on July 31st, 2025, at the age of 92, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on January 3rd, 1933, Jack spent the majority of his life in the picturesque Outer Battery, where he embraced the rhythms of coastal living and forged deep connections with the land, sea and his community. Jack spent much of his life at sea, as a devoted fisherman, where he found both his passion and purpose.
If jack was not on the water, you were sure to find him at the legendary Wells Twine Store, where he enjoyed connecting with the community and sharing stories with friends, neighbours and all who ventured inside. His warmth and generosity left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Jack’s spirit was as vast as the waters he navigated, and his stories of the sea will be treasured by all who had the pleasure of hearing them. Jack’s smile and twinkling eyes reflected a life well-lived, filled with joy, laughter and cherished memories.
Predeceased by his daughter-in-law Sheila; granddaughter-in-law Carmen; and his beloved wife, Mary. Together Jack and Mary built a family that will carry on his legacy of love, kindness and strength.
Left with a lifetime of memories are his children David, Jack (Ruby), Michele (Ford), and Yvonne (Tom); his grandchildren Shawn W, Cory, Shawn J, Amanda (Gord), Krystal, Samantha, Chelsea, and Morgan (Brian). His 16 great-grandchildren, along with a large circle of family and friends.
During the last years of his life, Jack made many cherished friends at his new home at North Pond Manor. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Cathy and all the staff for their compassionate care, love, and support.
Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home at 329 Freshwater Road, on Saturday and Sunday, August 2nd and 3rd from 10:00 am – 9:00 pm. So very sorry for your loss Michelle and family..
I remember him well when I was a little girl spending mega time in the Battery at my Aunt Elsie Wells’ house. Uncle Jack as I knew him was always pleasant and with a smile. Even into teenage and young adult yrs we would go to Uncle Jac’k’s and Aunt Mary’s whenever we were stuck in the snow, unable to make the hill in harsh winter conditions. They would always welcome us warm and friendly.. Great memories.. He will be missed dearly by family and friends.:(Hugs to you all..

So sorry to hear of Uncle Jack’s passing. I have a lot of memories being out in the boat with him and pop. When ever I went to visit I was always welcomed to the house then he would ask if I wanted to run down to the store. I loved that place. Thoughts and prayers are with you all.
