It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Jacob Winsor at Hillcrest Estates, Mount Pearl on Friday, September 25th, 2020 at the tender age of 99. Jacob is predeceased by his wife Helena in 2009, parents Percy and Gladys (nee Blackwood), brothers George (Mollie), Percy (Nerissa) and Woodrow. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his sons Paul, Bruce (Joan), Terry (Carolyn); grandchildren Amanda (Jason), Meghan (Callum), Jessica (Devon), Christopher and Jennifer (Greg); great-grandchildren Charlotte, Logan, Scarlet, Kellen, Alexis and Ethan, as well as extended family and friends.
Jake, as he was affectionately known, was born in Wesleyville, Bonavista Bay and moved to St. John’s as a young man. After a long career at CN, Jake and Lena spent many years at their second home in Green’s Harbour. They enjoyed rip-roaring games of 120s, potluck dinners and lots of laughter with friends and co-workers.
The family will be receiving visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30th. Cremation has taken place.  A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 1st, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Carnell’s Memorial Chapel. A private interment for both Jake and Lena will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
Due to the Covid gathering restrictions and the safety of others, we respectfully ask our relatives and friends to limit their time during visitation. For those unable to attend his celebration of life, the service will be live-streamed.
In lieu of flowers, donations, in his memory, can be made to Wesley United Church in St. John’s or a charity of one’s choice.
Special thanks to the staff of Hillcrest Estates for their care and compassion over the past four years.

Mom and Dad, together again.
Now…who’s got the ace of hearts?

Jake will be forever remembered in our family for all the card games Jake, Lena, Mom, Dad, Aunt Cecily and Uncle Joe played at each others house. Not sure who hit their knuckle harder, when laying the Ace of Hearts, Jake or Uncle Joe!!! Oh what great memories we have of parties and meals with your Mom and Dad. We will also be forever grateful for all the visits Jake made with Dad, especially while Dad was at the Agnes Pratt Home. Jake would always carry on the conversation even if Dad didn’t give any input. He was a very dear friend to Dad and we truly appreciated that.
