It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of James Abbott (Born in Summerville, NL), at the Western Long Term Care Facility, in Corner Brook, NL, on Thursday, February 10th, 2022, at the age of 95 years.

Leaving to mourn with fond and precious memories his nieces, and nephews; Annie Harris (Beaton) of Port Blandford, Elva Wells (Fred) of Cormack, Joseph Abbott (Florence) of St. John’s, NL, Nellie Frye and Ivan Abbott (Barbara) both of Mt. Pearl, his great nieces, and great nephews; Lori, Robyn, Jonathon, Stephen, Naomi, Jacinta, Marsha, Tammy, Tanya, Dion, and Minetta.

James was predeceased by his parents; Elizabeth and Samuel Abbott, his siblings; Phyllis, Maud Fry (Henry), Eli (Elizabeth), Abel (Gladys), and Absalom (Eva), and his nephew-in-law; Scott Frye. Also left to mourn Jim’s passing is a large circle of coworkers and friends, here in Atlantic Canada where he preached the Gospel, and in many places where he traveled, to reach out and to be a help to those that had already heard and believed.

Jim started in the ministry in 1947 and dedicated his life to that work until he was no longer able. He then returned to Newfoundland to be near his niece, Elva Wells in Cormack, and a year later went to the Deer Lake Manor. Jim’s life demonstrated and did what he wanted that his funeral service would do, that it would speak: “Lots about the Lord’s mercy and Grace”

The funeral service will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s, NL, on Thursday, February 17th, 2022, at 11:00 am, with the burial to follow at the Non-Denominational Cemetery in Paradise, NL.

I remember Mr. Jim from a child. He was always a meek and gentle servant of God. Always interested in others .Will always remember his kind smile and humble attitude. Sending condolences

Dear Jim has been a steady loving influence all of our lives! We appreciated his wit and humor, but most of all his love to feed the lambs & sheep….even in these later years…his letters would begin “Dear Ones”…and we truly felt his care. His faithful influence will remain with us. Thinking of his family and many co-workers over the years.

Our thoughts are with the family of mr Jim’ in his passing .wonderful to have known him in life time.He was a true servant of God and a very special friend to us all.we have many great memories .

When we heard of Jim’s passing, we went back and reread the letters that he sent us over the years. In almost all he had written on the back of the envelope “Greetings to all.” That was truly Jim’s testimony, he had a care for the souls of all mankind. We’ll miss you Mr. Jim…….Cecil & Mary

Sending condolences to the Abbott family on the loss of your uncle. One of the last times that I saw him was on the “Point” berry picking. He did not know me but when I identified myself we had a little chat about “Gods bounty”. He then asked me if I was Neddy Jim’s quiet girl. When I assured him I wasn’t,;that was my older sister Bertie he smiled and said “i thought so”.
A gentle man who went quietly about the Lords work. My sympathy to all.

We had the privilege of having Mr Jim in our Gospal Meetings for a few years. He always had that quiet & gentle spirit about him. I made my choice in one of Mr Jim’s Meetings, he gave me one of his big hugs that night.A few months after he baptismed me, so lots of good memories to hold on to.He sure had a love for others.Hymn 324 Live for others day by day. That was Mr Jim. Thank ful for his faithful life. He always told Ralph that he enjoyed his days at our house. Taughts go to all his family.

Love to all there I remember Jim when I live in English Hr and spent some weekend in Summerville I know he will be miss

We have many memories of of Jim when he was in our area in Saint John . We appreciated his quiet manner and love for all. When we think of Jim it is with a desire to have these qualities in our lives as well.

Our thoughts these days are with the family and the many precious memories we have of Mr. Jim. He always loved to reminice of his younger years in the work, of the friends and workers of that time. That same care and love for others continued throughout his life. So glad for such a faithful life lived out before us.

We were privileged to have Jim at some of our Convs and Special mtgs and enjoyed very much his fellowship and help. We were at St George once and he came to us and made us so welcomed and invited to come back again.
