It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James (Jim) Arthur Young. Predeceased by his father Jim, brother Bob, in-laws John and Mary Oliver.

Leaving behind his wife of 40 years Frances and his two pride and joys Colin (Janelle) and Scott (Karen); his mother Jessie; surviving brothers Randy (Jeanette), Steven (Dorothy); brother-in-law John; nieces Crystal Warren, Robyn Follett, Kelly Synyard, Ann, Brenda-Jean White; nephew Robert White, along with a large number of cousins and friends. Also, best friends and chosen brothers of over 45 years; Dale Clarke (Jackie) and Keith Larkin (Thelma).

Jim was a heavy duty equipment mechanic by trade, and both an outdoorsman and tinkerer at heart. He was a problem solver and “go-to” mind, for any inquiry. Always ready to lend a hand, Jim was often seen helping his neighbors, friends, or family. Quick with wit, rarely did a day go by without a good laugh.

Our lives changed February 2024 with the shocking diagnosis of a glioblastoma. His positive attitude carried him to October where we learned the tumor had grown. He pushed through with the hope of more time with his family, always doing what he thought his family needed him to do. Though he knew his time was limited, he still joked and laughed with his loved ones all the same. His endless light for those he loved will be felt for an eternity.

Our sincere heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the palliative care unit at the Miller Centre for their great care. To say the nurses and cleaning staff were fantastic is an understatement. They took a bad situation and bought light and laughter to his day. Most of the time they didn’t even know how much he enjoyed their joking and banter. Thank you for making his last six weeks memorable in a good way.  Thank you Dr. C. Hurley for taking such good care of Jim when he needed it the most.

Cremation has taken place.  The family will receive visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s on Wednesday, July 16 and Thursday, July 17  from 10:00 to noon, 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm.   The funeral service will be held at the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Friday, July 18th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at the Anglican Cemetery on Forest Road.

Dear Frances,and Familiy,
excuse the late post.
I was very sorry to hear about the passing of your husband; I only just learned the news by chance recently. Although many years have passed since we were last in touch, I wanted to reach out and send my sincere condolences to you and your family. I am thinking of you during this difficult time and wishing you peace.

Best regards,

excuse the late post as I did not know Jim passed.

As a bucket truck lineman working on the end of a boom that Jim had inspected and mechanically maintained gave me great confidence I, and my crew were in the safest aerial device.
Thanks Jim and your other team members.

Best regards to Jim’s family

Jessie and family, we were saddened to learn of your son Jim’s passing. Love continues, and memories console us, as you remember Jim and all that he brought to your lives. Hugs to everyone.

Dear Frances and Family,
We are so sorry for your loss, thinking of you and praying for strength and comfort. May your treasured memories always keep Jim close in your hearts and make you smile every day. His service was beautiful. God Bless.
Sincerely,
Don and Diane Butler

May you find comfort in the wonderful memories you have of Jim.
I wish I could have met him however I feel I knew him through my beautiful friend Frances’
stories. Virtual hugs to all from Nova Scotia.

Jim was a wonderful neighbour and friend. He was always there to lend a helping hand. A good many times he would bring Chris to work when one of our cars broke down. He would gladly fix a a whipper snipper or an old tool we were using. I fondly remember the winters many years back and everyone on Garden Road would be out shovelling and snow blowing and helping neighbours out. Jim was always there in the midst of us saying something funny and playing with the kids and gladly helping. Jim you will be missed. Thanks for showing us what friendship and kindness was all about. To the family we send love and prayers at this time.

Frances, Colin,Scott, Aunt Jessie, and all the Young family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time. Jim maybe taken from you but you have all your memories and no one can ever take them from you..
Love to you all
Catherine

Frances, Colin, Scott and the Young family, myself and Anne Marie send our deepest condolences. I first met Jim 0ver 40 years ago when he was an Apprentice at Harvey and Company. We just seemed to connect on all aspects , although both of us moved on, I could always count on Jim if I needed help. We have missed his wave when driving by the house. Take care and we will touch base when we are back in NL.

Frances, Colin, Scott, Mrs. Young and Young family, So sorry to hear about Jim. I know he was a good husband, father, son, son-law, brother-in-law and friend He was a man who truly loved and valued his family and his death is a tremendous loss in your lives. I feel your pain. I’ve always felt that the following quote by Leo Buscaglia says so much when a person is grieving and I hope it helps in some small way. “I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love.”. I always like to add that ‘Just as his life was enriched by your love.”. Take care of yourselves as Jim would want you to do, Share memories of bygone days where you’ll laugh and cry together. The laughter and the tears will help all of you so very much. I will see you on Thursday. Love, Aunt Dot & family.

Words cannot express the sorrow we feel for your loss. Jim was such a good buddy to Keith and a great friend to both of us. We enjoyed wonderful times together at the cabin, in Florida and visits at each other’s homes, they were filled with fun and laughter. Jim was someone who would go out of his way to help with anything whether it was electrical, give a hand with repairs or questions on a GPS, he had the knowledge. He was a close friend and buddy who you could count on. He will be sorely missed but we will cherish the memories made forever.
Rest In Peace Jim. Big hugs to all his family.

Frances Colin Scott and family, so sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. I know only too well how difficult his diagnosis was on the family as my niece and her daughter lost her husband and dad a year ago at 45. My heart breaks for you all. Sorry for your loss Condolences to your family
