James “Jim” Puddicombe passed peacefully away on May 4th, 2026, surrounded by his loving family after a life well lived. Jim spent many years working as an auto-body technician, and enjoyed a quiet retirement filled with many visits from his children and grandchildren, and eventually great grandchildren. He was a quiet man who enjoyed his soap operas, wrestling, crosswords, and you knew if you were going to visit to pick up a scratch ticket on your way.
Predeceased by his wife Joan Marie, with whom he shared 21 beautiful years of marriage; His parents Robert and Margaret; brothers David (Wanda), and Mike (Frances); Sisters Marg Hewitt (max), Joan Knight (Bill), Agnes Snow (Ed), Florence Smith (Wayne), and Frances Lorraine.
Leaving to mourn his daughters Debby (Tony), and Lynnie (Raymond); Sons Gerry (Chantal), and Jimmy; brother Harold (Alice); Granddaughters Melissa, Michelle (Dylan), Megan (Lee), and Cassie; Grandsons Chris (Holly), Brandon, And Nicholas (Emma); along with Great-grandchildren Lily, Paisley, Benjamin, and Griffin. He also leaves to mourn a large circle of family and friends, especially his niece Cavell Snow who’s visits he looked forward to every Thursday.
Special thanks to the nurses and staff at the Health Sciences Centre for their wonderful care.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday May 7th at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd, St. John’s. A funeral service will be held at The Carnell Memorial Chapel on Friday May 8th at 10 a.m. Interment to follow the service at St. Kevins Cemetery.
Donations in his memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
