While at a friend’s house last night, for some reason, Janet’s name came into the conversation. I was shocked and very saddened to hear that she passed away over two years ago. I couldn’t believe it and wondered how I had not heard anything through one of my nursing circles. We spend April in Florida and figured that was the reason. I felt a sense of loss and thought of it through the night, hence, this very late note. I felt very fondly toward Janet and was impressed by the way her career evolved.
The first time I met Janet was when she was introduced to faculty at MUN School of Nursing. As a fellow Queen’s Nursing graduate, though quite a bit younger than me, I connected with her. She arrived just after spending her time in Papua New Guinea and I was impressed by her charitable work and dedication to others less fortunate. I then followed her story and how she was introduced to the man who would become her husband.
Our lives took different but loosely related paths from that point on. We both pursued our Masters degrees and I heard of the challenges she faced with completing her thesis. I followed her career as it focused in on a Lactation specialty, always impressed, but not surprised, by the achievements she made.
In the mid to late nineties, our daughter worked part-time as a Fitness Instructor and pool attendant at the Delta while completing university. I believe you had just returned from Labrador. She told me of this lovely family and the sweet kids who came to the pool, only to find out that they were Janet and your children. I told her that I was not surprised.
I send my sincere condolences to the family. You must miss her but also must be so proud of how she lived her life. I hope that you have been able to move on, while at the same time, remembering the beautiful person that she was.

To all the family….Janet was a godd and beautiful friend over the brief few years that we were getting to know eachother. Her positivity and goodness filled every encounter.I wish all your many treasured memories bring strength ,,love and peace as you begin this stage of life
Deepest sympathy….you are all in my prayers

To all the family, I wish you the blessings of loving memories of Janet and peace in your heart as you journey on through your sadness. How I will cherish my times of visiting over the years in many locations and sharing her joy and laughter. You and David and Christine and family will remain in my prayers.
With deepest sympathy, cousin Janice Dennis

Dear Bill and family,
Our prayers go out to you at this time and am sure that Janet has left a wonderful legacy with you, your children and friends in our physical world and she will live on in our spiritual universe. Gone too soon

We knew Janet only briefly when you lived in Corner Brook and were just so saddened to hear of her illness and then her death. She was such a warm, lovely person and made you feel that you had known her for ever, even at first encounter. She had such a special gift with people; such a bright light. We know that she will be so deeply missed by all of you and countless others whose lives she touched. Sending our deepest sympathy, Elizabeth and David Smallwood

Janet was a classmate at Queens – Nursing Science 81. She was a warm, kind, and a beautiful person inside and out. It was a pleasure to catch up with her at our last class reunion. She was passionate about her family and her work. Janet made a difference in so many ways, in the lives she touched along the way. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I am saddened to hear of the death of Janet, one of my students from her high school days at the Convent of the Sacred Heart. I remember her as a caring, fun-loving, exemplary student. I also remember how excited we all were when she won Miss Teen NS! As head girl, Janet was a wonderful role model and well-respected by all who knew her. My thoughts and prayers are with you; may Janet rest in peace.

I just happened to come across this news while looking for details of a funeral of a friend and instantly recognized the smile. I was a student of Mrs. Goodridge from 25 years ago and still remember how caring and positive an influence she was for those of us who were about to start our nursing careers. She was so passionate about the care of infants and new moms and her students. I have not seen her since that brief time period in my life but she truly did impact my nursing career and the way that I have taken care of patients and their families over the years. Thank you for being such a positive influence in so many lives. My thoughts are with your family at this time and may they take comfort in knowing how you impacted so many in your life even those who knew you so briefly.

We are so very sorry to hear of Janet’s passing.
Our sincere condolences go to the Goodridge family.
Another lovely lady has passed .

So sorry for the untimely loss of a beautiful person, woman, mother, wife, and friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Bill and family, I was so sorry to hear of Janet’s passing. She was a wonderful person and will be missed so much. I first met her many years ago on teleconference when we were both passionate about breastfeeding. At that time I admired her dedication but also the genuine and caring aura that she had about her. Of course this was reaffirmed when I met her in person. She has definitely left her mark on the world through her passion for nursing ( in particular breastfeeding) and in the way she was passionate about all other aspects of her life, especially her family and friends. She will always have a special place in the hearts of everyone who knew her. Please know you you are all in my thoughts and prayers at this time .

Bill and Family sorry to hear of Janet’s Passing…. Dave King and Trudy Kelly

I am so sorry to hear of about Janet’s passing and would like to convey my sincere sympathy to all her family. It was through her passionate and effective leadership with the BCC that our paths crossed. What a beautiful person…. and how her love for her own family shone, talking about trips and laughing about adventures with you all. I offer my condolences to you all. Donna Walsh, PEI

Dear Bill and Family:

We are so sorry to hear about Janet’s passing and offer our sincere condolences to you all. Janet was an amazing person, and we particularly treasure sharing with her about our respective work to help the people of Papua New Guineau. We pray that you will find comfort in such memories.

Dear Bill and Family,
We were so sad to hear of Janet’s passing,. Our thoughts have been with you and your family over the past several days. Please accept our sincere condolences.

As a law school friend of Janet’s husband, Bill, Ingrid and I met Janet, I believe, but once. But once was enough to sense the warmth and compassion of a good heart; enough to feel the quiet, humble, but strong moral fibre lying just behind the grace of a kind smile and embrace; enough to know that this was a person of quality, of love and of substance who would make a positive contribution with her life. And although little can soothe the pain caused by the loss of such a person, we hope that the knowledge that Janet made the world just a little bit better of a place for so many, provides some comfort to Janet’s husband Bill, her children, family and friends. Our most sincere condolences to Bill, his children and family.

I am so saddened by your loss of an incredible woman. Janet was an inspiration to all of us on the Breastfeeding Committee for Canada when I worked closely with her 1998-2001. Janet was a member of our graduating class, Queen’s Nursing Science 1981.
The warmth and brilliance she radiated in our four years together at Queen’s would have only multiplied as she affected the lives of her family, her husband, her children, her students and those she worked alongside. We last visited with Janet in 2006 at our 25th Nursing Reunion. Our thoughts and prayers are with Janet’s family and her community.

A classmate from MUN nursing school alerted me that Janet passed away. I’m so sorry to hear this,. I realize now that she was only a few years older than us when she was teaching. To me she was miles ahead, so confident and accomplished. She had traveled, married and started a family and seemed so passionate and sophisticated. She was very far along in her pregnancy at the end of one term but conveyed that this was all normal and healthy and no impediment to accomplishing a goal. What a great role model for a young class just starting out. However she was not so much older that she didn’t think our white starched hats were silly and had a good laugh with us as we positioned them and posed. And she very much looked forward to her weekend morning when her husband took the children to the park so she could sleep in! We could all relate.
I know this is a great loss to you and far too soon. Know she is remembered and will be missed.

Dear Bill, James, Sarah, Christopher and Will,

Please know that all of you are in our thoughts and our special memories of Janet will live on.

Sincerely,

Bill,
So sorry to learn of your loss .

Janet was a mentor, a visionary of community engagement, a loving wife and mother, an encouraging friend and a blessing in the lives of many. There’s so much more I can say about how she affected my life personally, but I think her greatest testament is the amazing work she did for women and children in this province, this country, and indeed throughout the world. I can only hope that my children meet people like her in their adult lives to be for them what she was for me.
