I am saddened to hear of the passing of your mom and grandmother. I know that she was a devoted mother to you both and cared deeply about her children and grandchildren.

Chris, I am so sorry to read that your sister Janice has passed away. She was a lovely lady. I will be thinking of you and your family at this most difficult time.

Sorry to hear of Aunt Janice’s sudden passing. I have lots of fond memories growing up spending time in Swift Current and lots of time at Nan”s cabin. I’m unfortunately not going to be able to make it today, sending my respects.

Janice, I will remember you fondly and the many conversations we had whenever we met, whether at Brenda and Bob’s parties or when we went to visit you and Roger at Kilmory, where you were a wonderful hostess to my whole family. You could carry on a conversation with anyone about anything, always fully engaged. You also had a way of making someone feel special and giving of your time. I’m sorry I never told you that. You were not afraid to express yourself – be it good or bad! I really liked that about you. The last time we met up was in the fabric store and we stood chatting for an hour catching up. I’ve thought of you many times since then but unfortunately I did not get to see you again. Rest in peace my friend.

A Tribute to Our Friend

We have been reminiscing over the past couple of days about our dear friend, Janice, who we have know for almost 50 years. Sadly, life presented her with many difficulties over the past few years, yet she found the positivity and let that gorgeous smile shine through it all.
Janice was a voracious reader who absolutely devoured a good book, had a vast vocabulary and was quite the Scrabble opponent. She was a fabulous cook who could make a delicious meal from almost anything. An avid feminist and a force for many causes close to her heart, including the Exploits Valley SPCA, Janice could always be counted on to help those in need. She was full of personality with a quick wit, a love of nature, and deep affection for all creatures, big and small.
With great intelligence and a work ethic to match, Janice held management positions during her life before taking on the role of co founder of Kilmory Resort in Swift Current. She and her then husband, Roger Jamieson, worked tirelessly to build Kilmory into the successful business it was.
Janice was a great and loyal friend to so many. She was outspoken but we loved her for that! We will miss her greatly, but we are happy that she is at peace.

So sorry to hear of Janice’s passing. Janice and I became friends during our high school years. We shared lots of fun times and laughter……..” a beautiful lady and dear friend” to me.

To The family of Janice. Grew up on Young St in Lewisporte with Janice. With so many kids living on Young St we always had our own baseball teams and never in want of a friend to hang out with. Was shocked and saddened to hear of her untimely passing. Will be thinking of you all during this most difficult time. RIP Janice.

So sorry to hear this sad news. I first met Janice in the early 80’s when she was working in sales and she came to my office on a sales call. Soon after she moved to Swift Current and we worked together on the school Parent Teacher committee. I was always happy to be in her company she had a good sense of humour and no doubt some “out there” ideas but she was always fun to be around. I unfortunately lost contact with her in recent years. Sending my deepest sympathies to her family and friends.

Our condolences to the Haynes families at this difficult time. Keep your memories close to your hearts., and let time heal.. Janice’s mom ( Aunt Minnie) has always been a big part of our family through out the years. Now Janice is there with her, by her mom ‘s side again. Hugs to all the family! Sending sincere condolences to Jim, Chris, Cam and Hope,  family & friends. It’s difficult and sad to comment on one’s passing when you have known them for almost 70 years. Beginning way back with my Porter family visiting Aunt Minnie & the family on Young Street for Sunday afternoons. That was a regular event.  I was around Janice’s age and that was when we ‘connected’, maybe age 4 or 5. We were friends throughout high school, later when she returned from BC around late 1977 we spent many hours together, during her ‘adjustment’ back to life in Lewisporte. We discussed this beautiful province , friendships, “the meaning of life” etc. Janice adjusted quite well and thrived !  We always had a special bond. We remained friends when Roger entered her life and soon a family came along, plus ‘Bo-Jangles’.  I visited a few times during the Kilmory years and later in Bishop Falls with Brian. We always managed to stay in touch, thru thick & thin.  *(I remember crashing at Janice’s house in Swift Current during a ‘ wet’ motorcycle trip with my young son, around the Burin Pen. Janice spent much time teaching Dylan how to play chess, something he still plays.)  Sadly , I lost contact with Janice the last 2-3 years and I feel sad about that…. Janice was an intelligent & caring lady. Yes, she had her own ideas & beliefs, (some I could not understand ?), but that was Janice !….. Rest easy my sweet cousin.

Regrettably Janice has unexpectedly passed away.
Janice was predeceased by her parents’, Jim and Minnie (Porter) Haynes and her niece Carla Cecilia Haynes.
She is survived by her children, Cam (Michelle) and Hope (Jonny) and 4 grandchildren, Ethan, Ruth, Margaret and Teddy, brothers, Jim (Ann), Chris (Judy) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Janice has had various careers and adventures over her life, including working in the newspaper/journalism field, sales, and for a number of years starting in the early 1990’s and with her then partner and co-owner/manager establishing and expanding Kilmory Resort in Swift Current. Around 2010 she worked as a host at Battle Hr. Historic Trust in Labrador and later as manager for 1-2 seasons of a hotel in Happy Valley Goose Bay.
In 2003, she was appointed to the Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women on which she remained for an approximate three year term. She was on the Telegram’s Community Editorial Board, a member of the Discovery Women’s Network and had served on the Vista School Board. Last but not least she was an avid reader throughout her life and would not hesitate to share her opinion!
