A tribute video in Jean’s memory can be viewed HERE
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of a dearly loved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Surrounded by her family, Jean Andrews passed peacefully away on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the age of 80, courageously fighting to the end.
Left behind with broken hearts and precious memories are her children, Susan (Dan), Mark (Debbie); grandchildren, Jasper, Andrew & Ariel; her dear brother, Newman (Marie); loving nieces & nephews Lynn, Lorraine, Jason, Kathee, Keith and Karin and special member of the family, Gloria. Predeceased by her other dear brother, Mervin (Mary).
Mom loved to bowl, play with her grandchildren when they were little and watch her Toronto Blue Jays. She loved to cook for her family and revelled in Christmases with her loved ones. Her famous Canada Day cakes, while always delicious, made us realize that mom was more of a cake apprentice than cake boss. She leaves with wonderful memories of her time shared with friends while living in Mississauga for many years and her hometown St. John’s, before and after her time in Ontario.
Special thanks to Dr. Brent Tompkins and the staff of the Dr. H Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre, the staff of 4 North A, Health Sciences Centre, who cared for mom for several weeks and to the staff of Pleasant View Towers where mom resided for a short time.
Cremation has taken place with no visitation by request. Donations in mom’s memory would be gratefully accepted by the Canadian Cancer Society, an organization where mom had spent some of her life as a volunteer.
Grief is the price we pay for love, but to have loved you and to have been loved by you, makes it worth it. We love you, mom.
To Jean’s family,
Jean was a cherished member of the St. James Ladies Bowling League for many years. She went about her bowling with quiet determination, and we could even squeeze a little smile out of her when she got a strike or spare or some other awesome shot.. She hated to miss bowling, and loved every week she was there just as much as we loved her being there. We were all so sad when she had to step away from bowling last fall because of all the pain she was having, and we were eagerly waiting for her recovery so she could join us once again. Sadly, that was not to be. And she will be missed. Deepest sympathy and hugs to you all from her buddies at St. James Ladies Bowling League.
Jean and I were best friends while going to school together. We lost contact over the years but met up a number of years ago when we ran into each other at the Avalon Mall.. We arranged to have lunch and shared how our lives had changed over the years and the way we were dealing with the changes. Jean was a wonderful person and I’m sure a great mother and grandmother and friend. My sincere condolences, I’m sure she will be sadly missed.
Sending condolences on your loss. The video was touching; cherish fond memories of the life lived.
Newman, Marie and family Condolences to you on the passing of your sister . Sending our prayers to you all
Mark, Susan and Families ,
My Sincere condolences to you on the loss of your mom. Jeannie was just a Teenager when I was born , so I idolized her as my very fun aunt . She taught me important things like eating Moirs pot of gold chocolates on Friday nights while watching TV and sun worshiping whenever we got the chance !
I have many fond memories of time together spending weekends with your family in Mississauga and n St John’s .
She was devoted to her family , which is so beautifully shown in the video . Thank you for sharing.

Dear Susan, Mark, Newman and Family and the extended Family and friends. We were so saddened to learn of the passing of Jean and send our most sincere condolences and love on this very sad occasion. Growing up Jean was like a Sister to me, as from the age of ten until I finished High School, I would spend part of my Summer vacation with Uncle Stan, Aunt Floss and Family. We shared a lot of good times together, and I have many wonderful memories of my beautiful , funny, very smart, Cousin that will remain with me forever. God Bless..

My sincere condolences on the passing of your mom. Aunt Jeannie was dad’s little sister and our big aunt. (but small). She was always an important part of my father’s and mother’s life. It’s comforting to know they are now reunited. I am sure it won’t take dad long to give her a hot spoon.
Susan & Mark
Please accept my condolences at the loss of your mother.. I don’t know if you remember me but I go back to being friends with your family in the mid 70’s. — you guys were just kids.
I arrived in St.John’s in 1973 and befriended your Mom and Dad through association with Matchless Paints. My wife , Linda, , became great friends with your Mom and even babysat you kids from time to time.. The Dinn’s, the Chancey’s , the Gallagher’s , the Bruley’s became great friends and still are today..
Your Mom even visited with my family on a couple occasions when she was in Thunder Bay on business.
As stated earlier I’m sorry for your loss , she will be greatly missed .
Susan & Mark,
I am so very sorry for your loss. Your Mom was such an amazing person and I have many fond memories of her dating back to my earliest years! She had an amazing character, in fact, was a bit of a character herself! She was so fun and so fun loving. I know she leaves behind a tremendous void in your lives but also many wonderful memories. She will be greatly missed. My condolences to you both. Take good care.

My condolences Mark, Debbie, Andrew and family.
