Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce Jeff’s peaceful passing at the Health Sciences Center in St. John’s, NL, surrounded by his loving family.  Predeceased by his father, Leonard and mother, Nora. Leaving to mourn, his wife Jocelyn, sons Joel (Meghann), Aaron (Julie), his beloved grandchildren, Simon and Kate and his adored canine companion Maggie, his brothers and sisters, Gerard (Carolyn), Denise Haley King (Bruce), Valerie O’Connell (Brendan), Fred (Andrea), and sister in laws Karin Brown and Janice Wells (Bill MacDonald). “Favorite uncle “of Chad, Aimee, Beth, Ashley, Ryan, Jeff, Shane, Aidan, Emily, Patrick, Blair, Heather, Ashley and Kristin. Jeff will also be greatly missed by a large circle of extended family, especially Eddie who was his brother in spirit, and many dear friends.   Jeff spent thirty years with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, most notably with Small Craft Harbours.  His legacy includes his work with small fishing communities all over Newfoundland and Labrador where he is credited with obtaining infrastructure and saving decommissioned wharves, in essence often saving the community.  A gold medal wrestler in his youth, he continued to be an avid sports fan, golfer, and boater and loved watching his sons on the field. He was a devoted music enthusiast, and in recent years took up painting. Ever the entrepreneur, he had plans to sell prints of his paintings!  Visitation at Carnell’s Funeral Home 329 Freshwater Rd. from 7-9 Friday Sept 29 and from 1-5 Sat afternoon, Sept 30. Very sad to hear of his passing. My father will be sad as well. He was well known to my dad when he was in goose bay years ago, he hired me on a student program when i 15yrs old.
