Obituary

Joan Elizabeth Arns of St. John’s passed peacefully away at Glenbrook Lodge on Monday September 23, 2019 at the aged of 79 years.  She is predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Karl; parents Ron and Julia Dwyer and her brother Thomas (Tom).  Leaving to mourn her  5 children: Karl (Kathy), Renee (Wayne), Paul (Patricia), Susan (John) and Dawn (Craig); grandchildren: Sarah, Stephanie, Matthew, Meghan, Jonathan, Joshua, David, Christopher, Jessie, Hayley and Abby; great grandchildren: Mackenzie, Brooklyn and Ava; a large number of sisters: Marina, Mary, Norah, Lillian, Catherine, Paula and Bridget (Bride); brothers: Edward (Ned), Ronald, Jim and Paul; also, a number of other relatives and friends.  A special thank you to all the staff of Glenbrook Lodge on 2nd Floor A who worked tirelessly during her time there particularly in her last few days.  We would like to thank each of you individually for the care and compassion towards her, it has never gone unnoticed and is much appreciated.  Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Wednesday September 25 and Thursday September 26 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday September 27 from Mary Queen of Peace at 11:30 a.m. with cremation to follow with a private interment.  Flowers gratefully accepted or donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation.

I miss you so much each and everyday, people keep telling me that it will get better in time but without you it will never be the same, I know you wouldn’t want me to be upset everyday so I’ve been trying super hard to stay strong for you Nanny, I know your looking down on me each day helping me get by ❤ ill forever treasure every Sunday growing up coming to yours and poppys house for Turkey dinner, and every Christmas eve spent with all the family on wadland crest watching you run around tending to everyone of us making sure we all were looked after, and even living with you the last 2 years before you went into Glenbrook lodge, our late night chats and smokes ???? to early mornings waking up to you roaring at me to get up for work (haha), me you & aunt Paula having lunch together everyday as long as i can remember back!❤ I hope Poppy greeted you with arms wide open as I’m sure he missed you as much as I miss you, I know your in a better place now nanny & free from pain. Ava sent you off with your beautiful angel wings she drew for you, I will remind her daily how much love you had for each of us nanny, (even though me and ava are your favorites ❤????????) and how amazing you always were.

Rest peacefully Nanny, and give poppy a kiss and hug from his little girl meggie & his great grandchild Ava Nichole ❤❤????????

Dear family members of Joan Arns

It is with great sadness that I reach out to you today to express my deep sorrow of the passing of your mom Joan .
It has been many years now that I have seen Joan but she has lived in my heart and always will. Joan provided a loving family and lots of love to me when I needed it most. I have only good memories of my time spent with you all at Wadland Cresent.
Please except my heartfelt condolences and sympathy.
Joan I thank you for your kindness and your loving spirit. I know they rolled out the red carpet for you when you entered heaven!

So many wonderful memories I will always carry in my heart.. going to bingo, trips to terra nova, and weight watchers, where if we lost even a half pound we would go to KFC and sit in the parking lot and have a snack pack so no one knew we were eating it (haha).You were more like a mother to me not a mother in law and I will always miss you. Karl,, Renee, Paul, Susan and Dawn. So sad to hear of Aunt Joan’s passing. I will always remember her warmth, generosity and her open house and arms. She took care of us when visited or even longer as when I lived with her for while during university. I know she is and will be dearly missed.
