Joan Elizabeth Martha King

July 27, 1943 to October 20, 2018

Obituary

The family of Joan Elizabeth Martha (Eavis) King, of St. John’s announce, with sadness, her sudden passing in the early hours of Saturday, October 20 at the Health Sciences Centre.

Born in 1943 to the late Alf and Ida (Batstone) Eavis, Joan was a loyal friend, mother, sister, and employee.  She spent many years with RC Anthony Insurance and later at NewTel (now Eastern Edge) Credit Union.  She also gave reign to her entrepreneurial and creative side in her own ceramics business.

In her later years, she enjoyed traveling in the US and Canada with relatives and friends and took every opportunity to spend time with her “grandpuppies,” on whom she doted.  You could always count on Joan to bring wit and a warm heart to any situation.

Joan leaves her mourning children, Shelley (partner Raffi Balmanoukian) and Jason (partner Kimberly Robertson), brother Gary Eavis (Pamela Eavis nee Kelloway), sister Wanda Young (Richard), special cousin Andrina Butler, several nieces and nephews, and a close circle of long-time friends.

Joan’s family will welcome visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Sunday, October 28th from 1 – 5 pm.  Her cremated remains will be interred with her beloved parents following a service at the Carnell Memorial Chapel at 10 am on Monday, October 29th.

Flowers graciously declined.  Donations may be made in Joan’s memory to the SPCA St. John’s (https://spcastjohns.org), or to a charity of your choice.

Sorry to hear about Joan

Brian Grant

My sincerest condolences to Joan’s family & friends. My memories of Joan go back to R.C.Anthony whereby Joan was my boss I guess you could say. It was the early days of inputting information of which I didn’t have a clue. But with Joan she was kind, funny & patient.!
I met some great people there, Joan of course, Pam & Wanda & many others! You don’t hear people say that much these days about their work, meeting friends,it’s too chaotic now.
This time frame about 40 years ago & I can still remember Joan’s smile & bubbling laughter. So to ALL her family Joan was too large with life to be gone from you. She’s just in a different home but always close! God bless you Joan & thanks for the memories.

Shelley, my deepest of sympathies. I can’t imagine losing your mom like that. Your in my thoughts and prayers.

Wanda,
So sorry to hear of your sisters sudden passing. Thinking about you and sending sincere sympathy to your family and Joan’s children. God bless you all at this sad time.
