It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Joan Lucretia Arabella Collins (Nee Peckford) on Sunday, March, 6th, 2022. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Katie Peckford, husband Harold, daughter Debbie, brothers Reginald, Harvey, and Edwin, sisters Mae and Regina ( baby sister Maureen Josephine).

Joan was born in Clarke’s Head, Gander Bay, Newfoundland on December 3rd, 1928 and spent many years in Gander later moving to St. John’s in 1972.

Leaving to mourn are her nine children, Brian (Raye), Betty (Roy), David (Eunice, deceased), Paul (Valerie), Sharon, Kevin (Karen), Craig (Denise), Derek (Annie), and Tony. Thirteen grandchildren, ten great- grandchildren as well as her brother Gordon (Nettie, deceased) and sister Ada (Don, deceased).

Joan was residing at her home in St. John’s at the time of her passing. She faced her final challenges the same way she lived in life- with dignity and a quiet determination.

Due to Covid-19 there will be no visitation and there will be a private funeral service for immediate family only.

Donations in her memory are gratefully accepted and can be made to a charity of one’s choice.

You can shed tears that she is gone

or you can smile because she has lived

You can close your eyes and pray that she’ll come back

or you can open your eyes and see all she’s left

Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her

or you can be full of the love you shared

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday

or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday

You can remember her and only that she’s gone

or you can cherish her memory and let it live on

You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back

or you can do what she’d want

Smile, open your eyes, love, and go on

To the Collins Family, my deepest sympathies to you at this very sad time. May Joan live on in your cherished memories that you hold close to your heart.

Well, what can I possibly say that hasn’t been said already about your wonderful Mom? Mrs. Collins was truly one of a kind. I have a lot of memories of her that I will cherish forever. Sadly the qualities that your Mom exhibited seem to be dying off with each generation. All we can do is to try to live our lives as she did, with faith, dedication & humility.

Love you all & miss you,
Keith

Dave, Kevin, Paul and the Collins Family.
I would like to offer my sincerest condolences on the passing of your mother.
I did not get to know her well but I was told on many occasions that she was a wonderful cook.
In spite of my many pleas, I could never get invited down for a feed of turrs.
While I regret that I never got to know her well, it is evident that she was much loved and respected by all her family.
May you all draw comfort from the treasured memories of wonderful family times spent in the company of a very unique , caring and loving lady..
Sincerely.
Roger Jefford
