Obituary
It is with profound sadness that the family of Joan Stockley announces her peaceful passing on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at the age of 84.
She is pre-deceased by her Mother and Father; George and Ethel Stockley; and her oldest sister Betty Langdon.
She leaves to mourn her sisters Rose Dole (Cecil, deceased) of Dartmouth, NS, and Loretta Evans (Gerry, deceased) of Kitchener, Ontario; her brother-in-law, Robert Langdon of Dartmouth, NS; five nephews, Brian, Blair, Brad, Chris, and Darryl; one niece, Debbie; several great-nephews and great-nieces; and a large circle of friends.
Joan was born in Botwood, Newfoundland on January 27, 1942.
She started her career at Worlds Products in Botwood where she worked for a number of years. She then moved to Grand Falls and Gander and then later settled in St. John’s, where she was employed by Oceanex for 30 years. She later retired from Oceanex in 2009.
Joan was known for her dry sense of humour and her thoughtfulness towards others. She was an Avon Representative for many years, loved bowling and a good game of cards.
She showed her passion for curling over many years by playing and attending many major events and watching competitions on television.
Joan was loved and respected by her family and many friends, always being “the special aunt”, and a sister we all loved very much.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Healthcare Team and staff at the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre for their care they provided Joan during her time with them.
A special thank you to all her friends whose visits were a great source of comfort to her.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday September 13th from 2-4 p.m. at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. St. John’s, NL. All are invited to attend. During the celebration, we invite anyone who wishes to share memories to do so at 3 p.m.
Burial to follow at the Botwood United Church Cemetery at a later date.

It was a pleasure to have met Joan and her sisters over these past few months. My deepest condolences to Loretta and Rose, and to their families.
I am so sorry to hear of Joan’s passing and send my sincere sympathy to all of her family. I have not seen Joan in many years, but do remember her parents and three sisters. What a beautiful family they were! I know this is particularly sad for Rose and Loretta having lost Betty so recently. May your memories of happy times together help ease the pain. God bless you..

Gone but never forgotten
I’m very sad to learn of Joan’s passing. We had worked together at Oceanex for many years. She was always a delight to be with and was most helpful and I was in St.John’s on business. We did keep in touch and had the opportunity to speak not long before her passing. My thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time. May she rest in peace.

Joan was a dear friend who offered great support to our sister-in-law, Peggy Murphy, when they both resided at the Forest Road condominium. When Peggy left the building Joan kept in contact with phone calls to us and visits to Peggy at Bishops Gardens. Joan’s kindness to Peggy and our family was very much appreciated by all the Murphy family. May she rest peace.

So sorry to hear of Aunt Joan’s passing. She was a wonderful person and I have many fond memories of times with her over the years. I’m so glad Grant, Cameron and Jennifer had the opportunity to spend some time with her just a few months ago. My sincerest condolences to all.
Sending heartfelt condolences to Joan’s sisters and their families. I have fond memories of Joan when she would visit my parents, Leo & Mary Dominic, who were old friends from Memorial Avenue. Joan would have supper with us, and Dad would love to bait and tease her. After supper, the table was cleared and a good game of growl took place. So sorry for your loss.
