It is with a heavy heart we share the passing of John O’Brien, a beloved son, brother, husband, uncle, and a friend. John left this world suddenly and unexpectedly surrounded by his buddies Danny, Randy, and Neil (Smitty). He was where he loved to be, and with his friends he loved to be with.
John was Predeceased by his parents Denis Sr. and Mary, His wife of 29 years Linda (Nee Ring), Brothers Dennis O’Brien and Paddy O’Brien, parents-in-law Pat Sr. and Vivian, Brothers-in-law Bernard Ring and Tom Ring, and sister-in-law Rowena.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are brother Frank O’Brien, sisters Rose O’Brien and Shirley O’Brien, Brothers-in-law Jim (Mary) Ring and Pat Jr. (Dawn) Ring. Sisters-in-law Linda Ring and Dorothy O’Brien, special niece Jody O’Brien as well as many other nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, especially Colleen, Maurice, Glenda, Brian, Phil, Frankie, and so many others. He loved you all.
John worked hard his whole life whether it was digging graves or bailing hay, he gave everything he had and was always eager to help anyone with anything. He loved his wife immensely and always sacrificed himself for whatever she needed, that is true love! They are together again and rest assured Heaven will never be the same. John loved his “swallie”, a good party, and spending the majority of his time in Quidi Vidi. There are so many people who looked out for him and enjoyed his company. We will all miss his Drum/spoon playing and the heartiest most genuine laugh you will ever hear. His smile was infectious and the simple life he led made him happy and content. Rest easy sweet man, Til we meet again.

John’s Family
Sorry to learn of John’s passing, I remember him fondly when growing up in Logy Bay. Condolences to all the family, peace be with you John.
I was so sorry to hear of the loss of Johnny. What a sweetheart he was. I got to know him down here in Quidi Vidi when he would come to visit my brother Brian. It was less than 2 weeks ago I sat with him on our wharf and had him try my 2nd attempt at making salt fish. He gave it a thumbs up.
That said, he told me he’d rather take some fresh fish home instead of my salt fish so I have to wonder hahaha.
He never wanted to be a bother and just enjoyed hanging out and chatting, he will certainly be missed. He was part of the community for sure.
