Obituary

Passed peacefully away on Sunday July 6th John Joseph Wayne Caines aged 78

Predeceased by parents Jack and Sarah Caines, Special In-Laws Frank and Evelyn Knight; Parents In-Law Richard and Doreen Moorman. Brother Ted, Sister Annie and Niece Heather.

Leaving to mourn his childhood sweetheart and wife of 54 years Nancy (nee: Moorman), Daughter Courtney, Son-in-Law Paul (Lewis), Granddaughter Emma; Son Ryan and Grandchildren Jane, Jack and Claire Caines and, their Mother Cathy Caines (nee: Woodman)

Sister Sandra Taylor (nee: Caines) and Family; Brother Tom and Sister-in-law Ruth (nee: Broomfield) and Family; Sister -in-law Rosalind (nee: Blackwood) and Family; Sister-in-law and Brother- in-law Cathy (nee: Moorman) and Tom Parlet and Family; Sister-in-law and Brother in-law Terry (nee: Moorman) and Steve Swartz and Family; First Cousins “The Sweetapples Family”;  and Best Friends Terry and Cecilia George;  other relatives and friends.

John grew up on Gower Street, moved to Windsor Heights where he met life-long friends and the love of his life whom he married in 1971. John and Nancy went on to have a daughter and son several years later.  Their family grew to add 4 grandchildren.

John worked as a Refrigeration Engineer with NFLD Farm Products and National Sea Products for over 20 years.  Then came the Fish Moratorium, where he, like thousands of others in the day, attended Community Colleges for upgrading, there he met two very good friends Terry George and Randy Kenny.   John went on to drive for Valley Cabs and Newfound Cabs made more friends and enjoyed chatting with the folks he drove. He retired in 2023

John’s kindness and delightful sense of humor will be missed by all that knew him.

To his Family he was unique and will be forever missed.

Cremation has taken place.

Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, July 10th.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 11th, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Carnell Memorial Chapel, with a reception to follow.

Flowers accepted or donations to a charity of one’s choice.
