Obituary
On May 31, 2026, our beloved father, John Haggas, passed peacefully away at the age of 89.
He is now reunited with the love of his life, his wife and best friend, Mary Haggas. That he joins her once again on her birthday is a moment both poignant and fitting for a couple whose lives were so deeply connected.
Dad was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be remembered for his warmth, his wisdom, humour and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy lives on in the memories he created and the values he passed down to those who knew and loved him.
He will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his children, Jennifer Gaudon (Allan) and Mark Haggas (Susan); and by his cherished grandchildren, who meant the world to him: Aaron Gaudon, Stephanie Gaudon, Ryan Haggas, and Meghan Haggas.
Dad is predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Elizabeth Haggas; sisters, Joan Haggas and Maureen Caslake.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of dad’s life will be held at a later date.

Jennifer and family, our deepest condolences on the passing of your father. We had the great fortune and absolute pleasure of being John and Mary’s next door neighbors for 18 years. John and I had many a conversation in the driveway after snow blowing, or on the lawn after lawn mowing or over the backyard fence where John freely offered advise on what ever I was working on, and on occasion we’d enjoy a little totty of whiskey. John and Mary were wonderful people.

Jennifer, Mark and families. My sincere condolences on the passing of John. It was my pleasure to have worked with him for many years at the medical school. John was ever the professional in his work and a valued colleague. We also spent numerous occasions travelling to medically related conferences where I came to appreciate him as a friend as well as coworker. Fond memories remain.

Mark & Jennifer & your families. My condolences on the loss of your Dad & Grandfather. I worked with John for many years at MUN Medical school, in fact he & Dr. Voss hired me, that’s going way back. John was a stickler for detail & oh so devoted to his work. His work ethics were apparent with the staff, faculty & students, all of whom had the highest regard for him. Mary was a lovely lady who invited us to their home for a great meal. Not only was she John’s rock, she was also an excellent cook. John wasn’t a Grandfather when I knew him, but I’m sure the children were a delight to him. May he rest in peace.

Mark, I did not know your dad but I met your mom on numerous occasions when I taught you at Macdonald Drive Elementary. I think of you often and wonder how you and your mom were. I was not aware of her passing, therefore, please accept my deepest condolences on losing BOTH your parents.

Jennifer, , John will be missed. Meeting your Dad for the first time prior to your wedding was a real treat for me. Vroom, Vroom when he showed me his prized motorcycle and the ride he treated me to during that visit. I loved how he lit up when I said Vroom, Vroom when I’d see him on visits! I always enjoyed our conversations and his passion for the things that interested him. He was a special man!
