Obituary
Passed peacefully away surrounded by his loving family and friends, John Stanley Brazill, aged 62 years. Leaving to mourn with cherished memories his wife Sherry; loving daughter Carmen; loving stepson Donovan; sister Patricia (Peter); brother David (Perri); nieces Bailey and Meighan; nephew John; mother and father-in-law Patricia and Gordon Vivian; and a large circle of family, friends, and coworkers. John spent 35 years as a technologist at CBC. Early years were spent working with film and tape, and as technology progressed, he became an accomplished software designer writing complex code. John retired in 2009 to golf, fish and reluctantly renovate. He was very handy and industrious. And as he would comment of other such like-minded people – ” he could put an arse in a cat”. If there wasn’t an instrument made to do the job, he would design one. Cremation has taken place. The family will accept visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Tuesday, October 25th, 2016 from 2 – 4 p.m and 7 – 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, October 26th, 2016 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kids Eat Smart Program at St. Matthew’s School.

Dave and family. I have only recently heard of John’s passing. I am so so sorry that Johni is gone so soon. I knew John forty years ago. But I have thought of him very often over the years. He was a sweet sweet man. My thoughts are with you.

I remember John very well from his visits to CBC
Gander and also when I went to meetings in St. John’s. He was excellent to work with and often got me out of a computer bind. He was always just a phone call away. My condolences to you and family.

A cherished memory is having John beat me in “Name that tune” in a hotel in Montreal when we were working on the next CBC Dalet Audio system.
All he needed was two or three notes……

One of the saddest moments in life is when you hear about the loss of a great friend as it was with John’s passing. We have known him for over twelve years and during the last two years we have shared his ups and downs, looked forward to his impromptu visits for a cup of tea (even though he always brought his own), shared the “untruths” about the size of the fish we caught and those rides on the quad- going nowhere. Troutin season couldn’t come early enough. We have lost a great and dear friend. Sherry, Carmen, Donovan and the Brazill family – our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. I had the pleasure of working with John as he began his project to streamline the flow of audio at the CBC. He was a master of his craft and I looked up to him. My greatest memories are from the Duckworth Street building. I would visit John each day in his suite and make sure his computer systems were in working order. John would always ask me to pull up a chair and show me his latest build of BrazillWeb. He was very proud of his work and had fun doing it. A great man who will surely be missed. I don’t know this gentleman at all. But all I could see in the paper today were very kind eyes seemingly staring back at me. I’m just a stranger to offer my deepest condolences to his family and friends.
My sincere condolences to the entire family. I was one of the group who kicked around with John on Brownrigg Place. I still have pictures of a prom we all attended In high school. Godspeed, John, Godspeed!!

I have many fond memories of John from the years on Brownrigg Place. I’ve thought of him many times over the years and always with a smile. My deepest condolence.
Our deepest condolences to you all, Sherry, Carmen, Donovan, David (Perri), Meighan, Patsy (Peter), Bailey and Johnny (as grandma Marg used to call you). Heather Walsh-Gagnon and family Claude Gagnon, Keith and Jeffrey Peddle (and extended family).
You may not all know us but I know of all of you. Marg was my God mother and a Godsend to me. We had a very special relationship for all of her life. We were very close. My family grew up just three doors up from Marg, David and John. I believe Patsy, you had already moved away by the time your Mom and I became close.
I am so very sorry for your loss.
I spoke with John last August 2015. He had such a positive outlook and shared good news with me about his recent illness. He had come to know my sons’ father at the hospital they attended together, (Keith W. Peddle passed away on August 21, 2015.)
I remember John as always smiling. In our younger years he always dismissed myself and his cousin Cathy with the same distain as any older brother/cousin, but always without malice and always with that signature grin. As we all grew older, and saw so much less of each other, John became friends with my brother in law, Doug Meaney. John always met people and me with a huge grin and a very pleasant greeting. Looking at his lovely photo here, I am assured that that didn’t change.
My thoughts are with you all at this sad time. Remembering your father, brother and uncle, and wishing you all the will to remember all the good days and all of the fun times shared with John. (He is with his Mom now. He is not alone.)

I worked with John for several years and, while I didn’t have a clue about the projects he worked on, I knew they required skill and perseverance.

I never worked directly with John but we both shared the same love of computers and shared a lot of conversations about technology over the years. We also shared a few games of golf from time to time and he was a pleasure to be with.

I too worked with John for many years at CBC Radio, and frankly I was in awe of his problem-solving and technical skills. He was the creator of BrazillWeb, a file-sharing program that allowed us to move audio material over the Internet, changing the way we did business. If I recall correctly, he was lauded within and across the CBC for that amazing accomplishment. But I bet he probably felt his biggest accomplishment was the life and family he and Sherry shared with Carmen and Donovan. My deepest sympathy.

John and I worked side by side for many years at CBC. We helped each other and solved many problems together, now and then sharing a laugh along the way.

I first met John around 1970. I recall him as a shy and petulant teen, impish, confident, full of piss and vinegar. And I remember him as a talented and dedicated colleague whose career paralleled my own in over 30 years with CBC. I also witnessed how he softened and grew when Sherry and their beautiful children entered his life. Gone way too young. I send my sincere condolences to Sherry, Donovan and Carmen and to Pat, Dave and the entire family.
I’m a news presenter with CBC Radio in Ottawa. John made my work so much easier with his FTP system. It revolutionized how we radio types moved sound from one station to another. I’m not sure that I ever met John but I certainly appreciated what he did for so many people in the Corporation. My sympathies to his family.
Sherry, Carmen, Donovan and the entire Brazil family – I am so sorry to hear of John’s death. And shocked. He was so young. He worked hard at the CBC and was very very clever. But it is when I saw how he was with you Sherry, and your children, that I was most impressed. I wish you the strength and courage to get through this.
I didn’t know John, but as a long time CBC Radio employee I knew of him. He was legendary, and his work contributed to our efforts in ways that were incalculable. Sorry sorry for your loss.

I am leaving for Halifax tomorrow morning to visit Lucas for a week so I will not be able to come to the visitation or the service.
