Joyce Brake

December 31, 1945 to April 5, 2021

Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of Joyce Anne Brake announce her passing on April 5th, 2021 at the age of 75 years old.

She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her three daughters: Michelle (Randy), Alison (Kirk), Amanda (Pat); grandchildren: Stephen, Michael, Ashley, Ryan, Kyle, Aidan, and Justin; sisters: Imelda, Zita (Norman), Ella (Frank), Stella (Randy), Marian, Deanna; brothers  Ben (Helen), Vince (Bev); step-mother Sissy, companion Lew Skinner, father of their 3 daughters Gordon Bennett, and many former coworkers and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents Elsie and William Brake, sisters Bernadette and Irene, and brother Wallace.

Joyce was born and raised in South Branch, Newfoundland. She lost her mother at the tender age of 14 years old. She graduated grade 11 and then went on to teach grade school first in South Branch then in Port Aux Basques. She then began her 33 year career with the College of the North Atlantic in Stephenville where she retired and was tremendously respected as Purchasing Manager.

Joyce had many qualities that made her loved and deeply respected. Her biggest influence in life was her father, who instilled in her the enduring values of hard work and kindness. She was the most honest, loyal, kind hearted, ethical, loving human being, and also possessed an unforgettable sense of humor. She cherished her children and especially her grandchildren, developing a unique and precious bond with each of them. She made great effort to connect with them as often as life would let her do so. Her motto in life was to “Be Kind Always” and anyone who was fortunate enough to know her felt that kindness deeply. She will be missed more than words can say.

A funeral mass will be held at Saint Sylvester’s Church in South Branch on April 23rd, time to be confirmed, with cemetery service to follow. The family asks that the current Covid guidelines be followed and respected, with the maximum number able to attend the Church service being 35. Memorial Donations would be greatly appreciated to your local Autism association.

Sorry for your loss.

35 days ago I drove to St. John’s thinking you just needed some extra help around the house and maybe your driveway shovelled. If only I could’ve known how short our time was… I would’ve have hugged you so much more and likely got on your nerves more lol.
I drive back home tomorrow knowing I will never hug you again, never hold your hand, never hear one of your amazing stories again. My heart is broken. If love could’ve saved you my beautiful Mother – you would’ve lived forever ????????????

We are so saddened to hear your Mom passed. My all the memories you have become treasures that you can reach for and bring you solace. Sending you all our deepest sympathies.
