Keith Halfyard

It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, brother-in-law and cousin, Keith Halfyard.

Predeceased by his mother and father, Noel and Christine (Pike) Halfyard.

Keith is survived by his sister, Margaret Halfyard Holloway (Albert), cousins Helen Burke (Gerry), Christopher Pike (Mary), Linda Halfyard Greene (Ron), fur babies Rosie, Ginger and Pepper and many other members of the Halfyard and Pike families.

Keith was a Memorial University of Newfoundland graduate with a Bachelor of Political Science and Business Administration. Keith also was a long-time employee of NL Hydro.

Keith loved listening to and appreciating music, including the classics – like the Beatles. He had natural talent for retaining and recalling facts and figures ranging from NHL team and player stats (Boston Bruins being his favourite all time team), to pop culture. Keith also was an avid reader and a proud Newfoundlander.

He spent many days over his six decades in the country at Ocean Pond, where he shared special times with loved ones, even from childhood before all the power lines were installed. He loved to sit by a good roaring fire next to the woodstove as well as enjoy a good, home-cooked meal with family. Keith had a heart of gold and was always there with support and unselfish devotion. Thoughtfulness, sensitivity, generosity, and kindheartednesses – that was Keith- also shown in his charities close to his heart, too many to name.

Keith was highly intelligent and as a result, obtained scholarships in his life. He loved to play sports and also had a great sense of humour and loved several genres of comedy, including Monty Python. Keith was a member of St. James United Church and in earlier years, was a member of the Finance Committee.

Keith and his sister Margaret had a very special relationship of love, support, friendship and looking out for each other right until the very end. Margaret, affectionately called Keith ‘Gigi’ as she could not say his name as a young child and he always referred to her as his ‘dear sweet Margie’.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd., St. John’s, NL. Celebration of Keith’s life will be held at a later date.
