“We’ve lost our hero, our Miracle Man”

On December 25th, 2025, with his loving family by his side, Ken Pike passed away at the age of 78.

Ken leaves to mourn his loving wife of 56 years, Sandra; his son Jason (Becky); his daughter Tammy (Kent); and his cherished grandchildren Kyra Farrell, Aiden Farrell, Hunter Pike, and Conner Pike. He will also be remembered with affection by Isabella and Jacob. He is survived by his sisters Flora (Ernie), Margaret (Russ), and Karen (Shawn); his brother Carl (Jennifer); and his brothers and sisters-in-law Jean (Windsor), Judy, Harold (Rose), Max, and Goldie (Eric). He will also be remembered by a wide circle of friends and extended family.

Ken was predeceased by his parents Austin and Bernice Pike; his grandmother Cecilia Pike; his stepmother Mary Pike; his parents-in-law Lester and Belle Foote; his sisters Joan (John) and Bride; his sisters-in-law Mabel (Les), Rosella, and Lillian (Patrick); his life-long friend Rick Peacock and his dear friend and brother-in-law Frank Brenton.

Ken was born on May 30, 1947, to Austin and Bernice Pike. He grew up as the only boy among four older sisters, under the watchful eye of his grandmother, Cecilia Pike.  From a very young age, Ken was known for his mischievous and playful spirit.

In 1967, at the age of 19, Ken joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He served for 28 years and remained closely connected to the RCMP veterans’ community throughout his life, in large part due to the steady friendship of troopmate Eric Suley.

On March 31, 2000, Ken suffered a devastating stroke.  He spent the next 25 years defying medical expectations with a stubbornness that was unmistakably his own. Time and again, Ken and Sandra were told he would not make it — and time and again, they proved otherwise. With Sandra as his fierce advocate and partner, they barreled through unimaginable odds together.  Because of their unbreakable will and devotion to each other, he was blessed with the opportunity to watch his grandchildren grow up, see many waves crash, and spend many more wonderful times with family and friends.

Ken loved music, friendship, and any occasion when Ernie picked up a guitar or Harold played the accordion. His bedroom became the center of countless gatherings, packed with people perched on every available surface, waiting for the next song to begin. Those singsongs were among his greatest joys. If Ken’s wishes were followed to the letter, his service would require half a day to enjoy the long list of songs he requested be sung.

Ken’s family extends heartfelt thanks to Heather Kean, who was his part-time caregiver and an important and valued part of his life. He dearly loved her. Ken was also very grateful for his dear friend and RCMP troop mate Larry Bennett for his enduring friendship and support over the years and for officiating his vow renewal with his beautiful wife.

Now reunited with Frank and Rick and his other loved ones who have gone before him, there is undoubtedly more laughter in heaven.

I believe in angels, something good in everything I see

I believe in angels, when I know the time is right for me,

I’ll cross the stream.  I have a dream.

Cremation has taken place.

Sandra,
So very sorry for your loss. Kenny defied the odds, as did you Sandra. Condolences to you and all your family…

Eileen Matthews

Sandra and family: My deepest condolences go out to you on the loss of Ken. He was one of a kind. Always determined to succeed. A man of utmost determination. I always regarded him as the heart and Soul of Q Troop. He always gave his all and then some.. He may have been small in stature compared to most of his troopmates but he had the biggest heart. When we left Penhold Alberta in July of 1967 we never saw each other again until our St. John’s Troop Reunion in July of 2023. It was a moving experience to visit with Ken and Sandra and their family at the family home.. The bond we had formed in 1967 was still as strong as ever, even after 56 years of separation. RIP Ken.

Sandra and family:

Pat and I extend our deepest condolences. The thoughtfully written obituary certainly describes the person I knew, admired and respected.

Kenny was a bright spot at the Pain Clinic at Carbonear Hospital where we first met him. Matt and I looked forward to being with him and Sandra during monthly treatments. While I was parking our vehicle Matt was looking to see if their car was in his spot. Kenny and Matt had similar mischievous personalities which made those long days a little brighter. The nurses looked forward to the days they were there. Kenny and Matt may be passed on but they will be forever in our hearts. RIP, Kenny; you deserve this rest.

Sandra and The Pike Family,
Our sincere condolences to you and your families on Kenny’s passing. Thinking about you during this sad time. May he rest in peace.

Sandra and Tammy sorry to hear the.news, thoughts and prayers to your family.

Aunt Sandra, ,Jason, Tammy and to the rest of our family, I send my deepest condolence. Sending you all lots of love, and hugs from afar. I know how much he was loved by all of you, and how much you all will miss him. This is just a temporary separation from him though, in my opinion, because I believe , we will reunite again, after we leave this body we are given…. May you all find some comfort knowing he will be laughing and pain free, once again. I am truly sorry that you all have to go through this mourning period, as I know how hard it is… sending you all the hugest hugs. Love Peggy ❤️

Sandra and Family, I am thinking of you at this time of profound loss. Ken was such a gentle, kind soul and his presence will be deeply missed. With deepest sympathy, Odell Codner.

To the Pike family, condolences to you all on the passing of Ken. My dad, Spud Gallant worked with Ken in the RCMP for many years. I know Dad went this past summer with the RCMP Vets to see Ken, there is a great picture of them all. While Dad has some cognitive issues, he remembered Ken as soon as I told him of his passing and referred to him as his “very good friend” I know he sends his condolences too.

My condolences to Sandra and the family. Ken and I came together in January 1967 in Regina as strangers. We left 6 months later as brothers. He was handed a difficult challenge in life that he endured with his typical maritime humour. He has earned a well deserved rest in the arms of the Lord.

Sandra, and family,
My heart aches for you and your family.
Losing a soulmate, a partner in every sense of the word, is a pain that reaches the deepest parts of who we are. And for the children, and grandchildren, losing their dad-their grandpa…a protector, their guide, their hero-is a loss that feels impossible to understand.
Please know that you are not walking through this grief alone. The love he gave each of you, the memories he built with your family, and the way he shaped your lives will remain forever. His presence lives on in the laughter he sparked, the lessons he taught, and the love he poured into your home.
To Tammy and Jason
I’m deeply sorry for the loss of your dad.
There are no perfect words for a moment like this, but I hope you can feel the love and support surrounding you. Your father’s presence, his influence, and the memories you shared will always be part of you. Grief can feel heavy and unpredictable, and you don’t have to carry it alone. Please know that I’m here for you, holding you in my thoughts and wishing you comfort, strength, and moments of peace in the brutal days ahead.

Sandra, Ria & I were deeply saddened to hear of Ken’s passing. Ken & I first met during training in January 1967 and departed in July of that year. During that time a bond formed between members and the memories made everlasting. We again met 58 years later during a troop reunion in St. John’s in July 2023. While in St. John’s the members attending the reunion were invited to the Pike home to visit Ken, and his family and friends. The hospitality shown was superb but of note was THE LOVE and CARING that Sandra, family and friends showed towards their” Dear Ken”. Many memories new and old were also shared during that visit.
Our sincere condolences go out to you and families during this difficult time. May the many shared memories bring comfort and peace.

I was so so glad to see Ken when my son was in St. John’s for the Canada games basketball tourney. Kenny told me in his soft voice that I looked my dad. I get that a lot. Rick and Kenny were lifelong friends, and I was blessed to learn from both of them. I hope they are both enjoying a stiff drink somewhere in heaven. My condolences to Sandra and the entire family. Take care, Kurt

Dear Sandra and family,

I was deeply saddened to hear of Ken’s passing. Although it has been many years—far too many—since our paths last crossed, I want you to know that my thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.

Ken and I were RCMP troop mates.

Even after so long, fond memories of days gone by remain, and it is with a heavy heart that I send you my sincerest condolences. May you find comfort in the support of loved ones and in the cherished memories you hold dear.
