Obituary

Kezia Locke (née Hiscock), of Conception Bay South, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 25th, at the age of 103. Born in 1921 in Trinity Bay, Newfoundland, Kezia lived a life dedicated to education, kindness, and family.

She began her teaching career at the remarkable age of 14, instructing students in traditional one-room schoolhouses throughout the Trinity area. Her passion for education and unwavering commitment to her students spanned decades, culminating in a long and fulfilling tenure at Topsail Elementary School. Through her guidance and encouragement, she touched the lives of countless young minds, leaving behind a lasting legacy of knowledge and compassion.

During her retirement years, Kezia embraced a love for travel, exploring the world with enthusiasm and curiosity. She visited iconic landmarks such as the pyramids in Egypt and the Louvre in France, immersing herself in the rich history, art, and culture of each destination. Her passion for discovering new places and learning about different cultures brought her immense joy and enriched her lifelong dedication to knowledge.

Kezia was a devoted attendee and supporter of Saint John the Evangelist Church in Topsail, where her faith was a source of strength and comfort throughout her life. She will be laid to rest beside her late husband, Edwin Locke, in the church cemetery.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edwin; her parents, Norman and Violet Hiscock; her cherished son, Merril Locke; her brother, Roy Hiscock; and her sister, Francis Lee. She is survived by her loving grandson, Steven Edwin Locke; her brother, Ben Hiscock; her sister, Doreen Janes; her sister-in-law, Elsie Hiscock; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews who will cherish her memory.

Kezia’s warmth, wisdom, and dedication will be deeply missed by her family, former students, and all who were fortunate enough to know her. A graveside service celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist cemetery, Topsail, where her legacy as an educator, traveler, and mentor will be honoured.

May she rest in peace, knowing her impact on the world endures.
