Kurt Durrell Steen

March 22, 1963 to March 21, 2023

Obituary

Kurt passed peacefully away at St Clare’s Mercy Hospital on March 21, 2023 following a short illness.

Predeceased by his parents Ken Steen, Grace Wadden, and stepfather Patrick (Don) Wadden. Leaving to mourn sister Valerie Steen, stepsister Helen Reid (Clyde), stepbrothers Bob (Erin), Don Jr, and Tony. Also, nephews Joe and Jack Wadden, and cousins Liam Peddle, Keith Peddle (Anne) and Francis Peddle (Linda).

Heartfelt thank you to Flo Jordan, as well as to his many other caregivers over the years.

Special thank you to the nurses and staff at St Clare’s ICU; your caring and kindness to Kurt went above and beyond your job requirements – from providing him with a radio, to buying a sports magazine for him. Your thoughtfulness will never be forgotten.

Kurt loved bowling, dances, and karaoke. “Rhinestone Cowboy” was his favourite song! He also loved watching sports and could probably name every team in every sport.

Cremation has taken place and at the family’s request there will be no visitation or service. Inurnment will take place at a later date.

Dearest Valerie: How sad I was to read of Kurt’s passing. I will always remember being at your home and marveling at the way that he would remember word for word a paragraph that was read to him. I remember how you loved him so dearly. Take care, my old friend and God bless.

Dear Cousin Valerie and all the Wadden family,

It is with great sadness that we heard of Kurt’s passing. He had his very special talents, like not only being able to remember every team in the NHL, but every player and their number. He was with us all our lives, and fond memories of him will endure. We can only hope he passed peacefully, bereft of pain and troubles.

With deepest sympathy,

Your cousins, Francis (Linda and Liam), and Keith (Anne)
