Kwan Song Hum (better known as Granny) lived a remarkable 106 years, with a life shaped by resilience, devotion to family, and a deep connection to the traditions she carried with her from China to Canada.
She was a beloved mother to Kim (Mely) Hong and Jane (Jim) Mah; grandmother to David (Lisa), Debbie, Derrick (Beverly), Dianne (Greg), Dean (Cheryl), Jennifer (Ryan), and Christopher (Laura); great-grandmother to Emily, Devon (Sarah), Jack, James, Matthew, Sam, Joseph, Erin, Brielle, Brandon, Camden and Bryson; and great-great-grandmother to Jonah.
After immigrating to Canada, Kwan built an active, productive life. She helped care for her grandchildren, stayed connected with many friends, and shared her love of traditional Toisanese soups, doong and dumplings. One of her greatest joys was her annual vegetable garden, in which she grew an abundance of snow peas, Chinese greens, lettuce, and much more, sharing generously with friends and neighbors.
Kwan remained deeply connected to the cultural beliefs and culinary traditions of her home country, passing them down to the generations that followed.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the 4th floor staff of Tiffany Village Retirement Residence for their kind and compassionate care over the last 6 years.
A private burial service will be held at Mount Pleasant cemetery later this week.

My deepest condolences to all the family and friends on Granny’s passing, I knew her for many years and will always remember her ever present smile. Like many of her friends I graciously received and enjoyed each year some of the Newfie style greens from her garden, what a wonderful life, may she Rest In Peace.
