It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, Laura Blanche Hammond (nee Tucker) of St. Philips, who passed peacefully at The Salvation Army Glenbrook Lodge in St. John’s at the age of 91 on September 4th, 2023.
Predeceased by husband: Merrill Hammond; parents: Warwick and Blanche Tucker (nee Squires); brother: Lloyd Tucker; brother-in- law: Gilbert Tucker; other relatives and friends.
Left to mourn and who will forever remember our Mom are: sister: Greta Tucker; brothers: Clarence Tucker (Janice), Warren Tucker (Moya); sister-in-law: Sarah Tucker; children: Judi Howell (Gordon), Randy Hammond (Elsie), Nola Jefford (Howard), Warrick Hammond (Margaret); grandchildren: Steven (Jamie), Trevor (Denise), Lindsay (Stephen), Courtney (Brandon), Robyn (Kody ), Jason (Ashley), Leslie (Stephen), Daniel (Danielle), Marianne (David ); great-grandchildren: Lauren, Cameron, Georgia, Lela, Ava, Jordan (Hayley), Hunter, Bridget and Oliver. We will carry you in our hearts always.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at The Salvation Army Glenbrook Lodge for the wonderful care and support given to our Mom during her stay with them. We have sincerely appreciated it.
Visitation will be on Thursday, September 7th from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. Funeral service will be held at St. Philips Anglican Church on Friday, September 8th at 11:00 AM. Interment of Ashes will take place immediately following the service. The service is being live streamed with the link available above.
Flowers will be gratefully accepted, or donations may be made to the St Philips Anglican Church, The Salvation Army Glenbrook Lodge, or a charity of your choice.
Mom, you were sown here on earth only to bloom in Heaven. We love you and will miss you always.

Please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of this beautiful lady, who I (Daphne)met only once…when she dropped off a bridal shower gift to me in 1982. She said she wanted to be remembered as a friend of my mother (who taught in St Philip’s in the late 1940’s). She made a lasting impression on me!! Thinking of you all at this sad time.
My sincere condolences to the Hammond family . But be happy in knowing she is gone to join a very nice man in your father Merril . I can still picture one of them picking the kids up at school in their black 68 Chev . Dedicated to family always . I was only a kid but I liked both of them
