Laura Milley (Boutcher) was born on October 25, 1925 in Kingwell, Placentia Bay. Sadly, on Saturday, November 13, 2021 she passed peacefully away at Meadow Creek Retirement Home. She lived a long and fulfilling life, becoming Laura Milley as the wife of Doug, mother to Carolyn and Glenna, grandmother to 6, great-grandmother to 10.

Mom is predeceased by her parents, John and Bertha (Stacey) Boutcher, Husband Douglas James (1995), Sisters Sylvia Roach, Marcella Baker, infant sister Emily Boutcher; sisters-in-law Elva Rose (Bill), Doris Murray (Clinton), brothers-in-law Ron Milley (Clara), Chesley Milley (Betty), Reginald Milley (Lorraine).

Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are daughters Carolyn (Bill Hickey), Glenna (Ken Smith); Sister Ina (Joe McNally, deceased), Step-sister Linda Rodway. Grandchildren Joel Hickey (Karen Careen), Allan Hickey, Karla Walsh (Jenna Currie), Jaclyn (Grant Pitman), Julia (James LeBlanc), and Mark Smith (Vanessa Kearsey). Great-Grandchildren Nathan and Charlotte Hickey, Shannon and Madalyn Walsh, Lillian and Emily Pitman, Eleanor and Lucy LeBlanc, Scarlett Smith. Step- Great-Granddaughter Alana Careen.

We would like to thank the staff of Meadow Creek Retirement Home for providing a caring environment where mom could be as independent as she wanted to be. The loving care she has received over these past two weeks, after she became so very ill, so suddenly, is greatly appreciated.

We also want to thank Rev. Ian March -MacCuish of First United Church. We called Rev. Ian at 5:00 on Friday, and he was there with her at 6:00. Mom appreciated him interrupting his busy schedule, just to see her!

We would also like to thank Dr. Dennis O’Keefe and the staff of the Commonwealth Medical Clinic, Mom’s trusted family care provider for more than 30 years. Even though he ‘didn’t do house calls’, he visited her at Meadow Creek during the last week or two, and the relief on her face when she saw him was evident.  Dr. O’Keefe returned daily calls from us regarding questions about what was happening with her. We are most grateful for the care you and your staff provided for our Mom.

Mom was an independent, practical woman who enjoyed her 96 years, and when, in her words, her “number came up”, she was ready. She enjoyed great health up until recently and planned her parting with the same sensible attitude with which she lived her life. We will miss her quiet, dependable presence as we go about our daily lives without her.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Carnell’s Funeral Home in St. John’s. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, November 16 from 3-5 and 7-9. Funeral will take place at Mt. Pearl First United Church on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 2pm, with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest peacefully, with Dad.  The funeral service will be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person, with the link available above. Mt. Pearl First United Church requires all in attendance to produce their Vaccine Passports upon entry.

Forever in our hearts. At home in Heaven.

Hearts and thoughts are with you today. Sorry we are unable to attend the service.

Jaclyn, Glenna and family.

A Mother’s love is irreplaceable but the memories live on in your hearts forever. Hoping the long, healthy, beautiful life your Nan and Mom lived will help your hearts through this difficult time.

Thinking of Laura’s family and am sorry for your loss. We became friends when she and my Mom, Abbie, were next door friends in Meadowcreek . She was a joy to know with her pleasant smile and gentle manner.. I appreciated her many kindnesses to my Mom and her motherly concern for me too as Mom declined and in her passing. I’ve missed being able to go visit as I had hoped to continue. I hope she passed as gently as she lived. May your own happy memories bring you smiles as you hold her liove close

Bill & family
So sorry to hear of the passing of your Mom. Our deepest condolences to you and your family.

In thanksgiving for the life and legacy of Laura. I knew her first from CBS and then used to visit her at her Masonic home where we shared a few meals. Later it was Meadowcreek until the shutdown prevented visiting. Laura lived fully and she was a faithful servant of her Lord. May she rest in peace and rise in glory.

Glenna, Carolyn and Family,

We were so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. Our thoughts are with you all during this difficult time.

Deepest condolences,
