Lona Dunne Warren, roughly 49 years young ;), passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, March 5, 2023.

Lona was born and raised in Marshfield (Charlottetown), Prince Edward Island. She graduated from the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing in Halifax in 1961 before relocating to Newfoundland in 1970. Following graduation, Lona spent a year in Amman, Jordan, where she got involved with the Save The Children’s Fund. This kickstarted Lona’s lifelong dedication of volunteering and serving others, that included time spent with the Health Care Foundation, Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Regional Heart Health Coalitions, the Canadian Cancer Society’s Daffodil program, the St. John’s General Hospital’s Intensive Care Units volunteer program, and the United Ostomy Association of Canada.

In October 2002, Lona was elected President of the General Hospital Auxiliary and worked closely with officials and staff of Eastern Health and the Health Care Foundation to foster an environment of respect and friendship among auxiliaries, that continues to this day. She represented the Auxiliary at provincial and national conferences of the Canadian Association of Healthcare Auxiliaries and was awarded Life Membership in the Newfoundland and Labrador Association in 2008. In December 2022, Lona was honored with a special award and medal in recognition of her 20 years of dedication and volunteer services to the health care system in Newfoundland.

Lona had an unparalleled zest for life and laughter. She was an avid walker, shoe-shopper, crafter, flight-tracker, tennis and bridge player, who enjoyed the friendship of her TGIF group each week for decades. A social butterfly, Lona traveled extensively with her husband Phil and accompanied her 4 children on many exciting excursions. A dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, Lona felt a special pride and joy for the accomplishments of her family. She adored classical music, particularly that of Andrea Bocelli, who’s glorious music moved and soothed her in her final days.

Lona is predeceased by her parents Ruth and Alec Scott and sister Marjorie. Leaving to mourn with loving memories spouse Phil Warren; brother Preston Scott (Pauline), brother-in-law Graham Wilson (Irene); children Jennifer, Stephanie Dube (Shawn), Jimmy (Stefani); Jonathan (Katie); stepchildren Ted Warren, Jan Warren, Jeff Warren (Myra); grandchildren Theodore, Isabelle, Bridget, Nicholas, Colin and Lachlan Dunne, Jenni and Olivia Dubé, Bert, Katy, Kimberly (Aaron) and Allison Warren, Emily and Alex Luscombe; three great grand-children Noah, Tyler, and Liam Mourning; her TGIF galpals Andrée Thoms, Anna Murray, Betty Lou Whelan, Eleanor Rideout and Elizabeth Andrieux; and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
