
Passed peacefully away on May 25, leaving this world on her own terms, Lorraine Sarah Thornhill. Lorraine was born July 24, 1971 in Wreck Cove, and lived the past 18 years in Paradise. Lorraine will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother, caring daughter, sister, aunt and great aunt as well as a cherished friend.
Lorraine touched the lives of many with her kindness, strength and unwavering love for her family and friends. Lorraine created a loving home filled with warmth, laughter and compassion. Lorraine took pride in her home and enjoyed keeping it clean and tidy. Lorraine enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and was content with her life. Those who had the privilege to know Lorraine will forever cherish the times they shared and memories made.
In 2021 Lorraine was diagnosed with Huntington’s disease. Lorraine accepted this diagnosis and faced the journey with steadfast determination and remarkable strength. Lorraine fought a hard battle and worked hard to deal with every aspect and challenge of the disease with a positive outlook. Lorraine would not allow this disease to define her; instead, she decided how to deal with the disease.
Lorraine leaves to mourn her loving and devoted husband of 27 wonderful years, Jamie; her cherished daughter, Chiara; and mother, Jane Cox of Wreck Cove. Lorraine also leaves behind brothers Russell (Donna) of Wreck Cove, Carl (Linda) of Boxey, Dwayne (Phoebe) of Wreck Cove; sisters Ruby of Hermitage and Elaine (Trevor) of Nova Scotia; mother and father in-law Margaret and Jordan Thornhill of St. John’s; brother-in-law Ross (Tracey) of Torbay, sister-in-law Kim (Julius), of St. John’s and Janelle (Andrew) in Ontario. Lorraine also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.
Lorraine was predeceased by her father, George Samuel Cox, and brother-in-law, Garfield Taylor.
Jamie and Chiara would like to acknowledge the support of so many throughout Lorraine’s journey with Huntington’s disease, especially the Huntington Society counsellors, Dr. Stefanelli and staff, the genetics department and close friends who supported Lorraine to the very end. Your kindness and support will always be remembered.
In keeping with Lorraine’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
Donations in Lorraine’s memory may be made to the family.
Lorraine’s love for her family was endless, and the memories made with family will always be cherished and treasured forever. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
