Lorraine Whelan (née Crocker)

July 5, 1941 to August 21, 2025

Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, sister, and grandmother, Lorraine Whelan, aged 84, on August 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born in St. John’s, NL, on July 5, 1941, Lorraine lived a simple, beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to those closest to her.

Lorraine found joy in the little things—playing cards with her dear friends and, later in life, scratching her crossword tickets with quiet delight. Her greatest pride was her five boys, whom she raised with strength, and unconditional love. They were her world, and she was endlessly proud of each of them.

She was predeceased by her parents John and Clara Crocker, her beloved son Michael (Mick), and siblings Amy, Dougie, George, Shirley, Donald, John, and Wallace (Wally), brother in law Paul Chaytor and nephew Chris Chaytor.

Left to mourn her loss are her children John (Christine), Butch (Becky), Darryl (Rosa), and Kirk (Mandy). She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Ashley (Corey), Michael, Jessie (Sam), Brandon (Lori), Sarah, Laci, Lauren, and Lindsay, and her great-grandchildren Peyton and Weston. Her siblings Wayne (Freda), Joanne (Kevin) and many niece’s and nephews.

Lorraine also leaves behind many very special friends whom she loved deeply and considered family.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the compassionate and caring staff at Agnes Pratt Home for the kindness and support shown to our mother over the past few months. Your care meant the world to us.

Lorraine will be resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, Freshwater Road, with visitation on Monday, August 25th, from 2–4 PM and 6–9 PM. A funeral service will be held at Carnell’s Chapel on Tuesday, August 26th, at 10 AM, with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Forever loved, forever missed.
