Margaret Harvey Cave (nee Hiscock)

January 25, 1934 to November 13, 2022

Obituary

The stars above sparkle more brightly as our beautiful mother, Margaret Cave (nee Hiscock), ascends through the gates of heaven to reunite with her loving husband (Russell Nathan) who passed in 1987. Peggy is also predeceased by her parents Edgar and Daphne (nee Morgan) Hiscock, her precious son Baxter George, and her brother Lewis Hiscock. Left to mourn are her children Susan, Sandra (Phil Murray), Daphne (Arthur King), Kenneth, Jennifer (Glen Power); her loving grandchildren: Anthony, Ashley, Karli, Aaron, and Nathan; her brother Edward (Grace), and her sister Daphne (late Ray Allhiser), her sisters-in-law Evelyn (late Wallace Cave) and Kay (late Lewis Hiscock), and a circle of friends.

The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to her community nurse (April Adams) and Mom’s two exceptional home support workers (Sumaya and Esther from Angel of Hope) whose care and compassion enhanced Mom’s quality of life and exceeded our family’s expectations.

Mom was born in Port-de-Grave and grew up in St. John’s, the oldest of four children. Her parents operated a boarding house on Fleming Street and, later, on Brazil Square where she, even as a child, enjoyed helping with the responsibilities of the boarding homes and assisting with the care of her younger siblings. She met the love of her life, our father, Russell Cave, at the boarding house and, together, they shared a beautiful life. Those who knew her were captivated by her gentleness, her love of music, her ability to play the piano, and her angelic singing voice. She had an exceptional memory and could artistically express herself through storytelling and poetic prose. Mom held strong moral values and enjoyed church functions, volunteer activities, nature, and animals.

It is with cherished memories and heavy hearts that we lay Mom to rest.

Visitation will be held at Carnell’s Funeral home, 329 Freshwater Road on Wednesday, November 16th from 7-9pm and Thursday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.

A funeral service will be held at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Logy Bay Rd., on Friday November 18th, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Mom’s burial will take place at the Anglican Cemetery on Kenmount Road immediately after her church service. Donations gratefully accepted for St. Mark’s Anglican Church.

To Peggy’s family sincere condolences. from the Frecker family. We were fortunate to have Peggy as a caregiver for my mother and I have very fond memories of her kindness. In addition to the attentive care she provided, Peggy acted as a wonderful companion and in-house musician! My mother loved music and she and Peggy would often sing together and they clearly enjoyed each others company. Having such a compassionate and caring person to assist us in looking after our mother allowed her to stay in her own home much longer than we thought possible.
